TN: Myattsfield Mourvedre 2018

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

I've posted on several previous vintages of this wine, but have not opened one for a while. Unfortunately, since 2021 this is no longer made as a red table wine, and the Mourvedre grapes in front of the winery now go into their very popular Rose`.

15.8% abv. Deep ruby in colour. Vibrant nose with blueberries and red cherries, some vanilla, and the trademark Mourvedre earthiness. The palate shows more of that earthiness, with sweet red fruits cutting through, especially raspberry. There's some alcohol derived viscosity, but surprisingly little alcohol heat. Tannins are plentiful, but integrated and soft, while acid is also in the moderate range. Modest length.

Probably at its peak - I've had earlier vintages at 10 or more years, but this is about right at the moment.

Cheers

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
