TN: Wild Duck Creek Reserve Shiraz 2003

Post by Scoobinski »

Clearly needs many years to show its stripes; not nearly as approachable/aromatic as the 2000 vintage at release. Typical WDC shiraz - gripping tannins, well balanced acid and chewy texture. Honey, spice and red berries on the nose. Deep purple/black colour. High alcohol noticeable, but does not detract from the wine. Great Length. Needs 5-10 years, after which will be awesome! 92/100.

Has anyone else received 2003s from WDC. I'm getting a little concerned, as none have arrived yet.

I picked mine up at Dave Anderson's tasting session in Sydney - early Dec if I recall correctly.

Got mine in mid-dec. I have a standing order account.

Thx for the TN. Yeah, the 2000s were really flamboyant and exotic (especially the Reserve Shiraz). I actually think his wines are getting better structurally, with less emphasis on the ultra-ripe sweet saturated fruit of past vintages like 1997 and 2000. I've had all his wines from 1997-2002 but missed the tasting of the 2003s. I reckon his cab just gets better and better. And amazing how he maintains consistency year in year out, not a bad vintage for him from 1996-2003.

I know someone who isn't and gets an alocation every year. Two years ago Dave told me there were two lists - standing order, and the waiting list which is effectively what's left over from those who do not take their full allocations on the s/o.
