I don't have the time now, but The Age did a story about the 2019 Recorking Clinics in Melbourne last year. There was a chap, grandson I think of the original purchaser, who stumped up 3 perfect 51s...Gago said at the time he was one, speechless that there were three, and two, that all were in perfect condition.
He indicated a $60g plus result at auction should the vendor decide to test the market...I bet he has and one or both of the remaining two off the back of this result will most likely follow.

A few stray bottles of 2011...(yes the shittiest vintage in SA since the very wet 92 and equally poor 95) of Wynns BL
I went to a tasting function on release of the wine with poor Luke Skeer doing the marketing pitch, was like selling ice to Eskimos. He stated that a wine critic had it in his top 5 2011s across the country, yet don't believe said wine critic had that big a sample that vintage. I did not buy any on release, remembering it to be green, thin and bitter. Instead, I brought more of the 10 and 12 vintages.

Interesting year 2011, because any wine worth its salt (i.e. cue top marques) was not made in 2011, apart from Grange which even Gago through gritted teeth condemned. Strangely, Wendouree had a release too, have yet to try these either.

Anyway a very small make of BL that year, about 3000 cases vs. the standard volumes of 80-110 thousand cases.
Will try one when it arrives, and hope that time, palate or memory will be kind.

hmm 2011. In 2016 when i visited Katnook they told me they were one of the only ones to get their estate Cab Sav off the vine before significant rain made a mess of what was about to be picked in 2011. Be an interesting taste comparison to a 2011 BL.
The last Wendouree Offline we did in Adelaide I brought along a 2011 shiraz (only bottle under SC btw) and John Mack was a big fan. I think it was a pretty good example of how to let your wine making capabilites shine thru under trying circumstances. It wasn't the wine of the night by any means but it was still pretty solid.

yes mate here's your note;

2011, this wine polarised the group, John Mack absolutely loved it, and yes can see where he is coming from that it is a very good effort from a difficult vintage, but for the rest of us, it probably struggled. Very acidic on the palate almost medicinal, for those who have this vintage, open one up.

2014 selling below EP, and 2015/2016 at or just below EP in various auctions in US and HK.
as is always the case when you have investment houses selling pristine cases, retail will be obliged to follow to a point where the dfferential is inconsequential to the buyer.
with the dire Covid economy in front of us, those cracks might turn into large holes.

Picked it up at a relatively good price from my local who was discontinuing the wine. Not much information that I could find but figured it should be decent as a flagship 2010 Coonawarra CS.

Interesting story this one and will be careful that I don't invoke another call from the lawyers...but the 2 Reschke lads weren't all that happy after Trevor (their father) left a will that did not entirely favour the first born...and court action ensued. Number two son publicly left the business and got his own going with Koonara.
I well remember the first release of the Bos and the wine you purchased, at their debut fetching (or hoping) $100!!!! No pedigree...yes they sold good grapes to others but Sheesh. Punters were largely unkind and to be honest the brand has very little presence and has run out of steam. 8-10 year old wines on website largely reflects this.
I have tried a few over the years but it's a joke if it's considered in the same league as JR. If you got the wine for a good price...say $40 a bottle then it should be an enjoyable drink.

Thanks Craig. Appreciate your insights. I paid $75 vs the normal price of $150. They should have had some very good quality fruit to make it so hopefully still a nice wine, even if not worth anywhere close to the $150 asking price. I'll assume a 2020-2030 drinking window at this stage and planning to open a bottle this year - will post a tasting note here if I can remember.

So at $75 at least a good discount for you. I am not surprised that your local is getting rid of it... until your post it's at least a decade since I had given the brand a thought, and I'm generally all things Coonawarra.

A fine choice with the Antoniolo. For me they've been the best producer in Gattinara, but Giacomo Conterno owned Nervi aspire to that. Not cheap for the single vineyard bottlings mind, but the standard bottle remains fine value.

Cant find much info on their 2014 vintage of the Gattinara, so i was a bit hesitant, but seeing as I did try the 2013 Osso San Grato in June,
and it blew me away, I decided to take the punt.

Hacker, I have been buying from Woodlands annually for past 10 years. Arguably the best winery and producer in Margaret River IMO. Their flagship CS, Margaret and Chardonnay are faultless.

They now have a nice seating tasting arrangement and option to buy cheeses to complement tasting.

Real down to earth and quality outfit.
