Dropped bottle - screwtop OK?
I had a bottle slide out of my wine fridge today, hitting the carpet likely bottom side first from about half a meter. I did see what looked like a funnel of wine rushing to the top inside, but after wiping around the top with a napkin, it didn't look like any wine was spilling out. There is a slight dent on the top of the bottle but the 'teeth' of the screwcap seem fine.
It's an '18 I wanted to cellar for the foreseeable future, so am I likely Ok? Hopefully this is like a dented can of tomatoes that is otherwise still fine inside

Got a couple pics. You can see the slight dent on the top of the cap - rest of it seems fine.
I'm hoping to keep it for 5 years.

I wouldn't risk it.
Re: Dropped bottle - screwtop OK?
The condition of the 'teeth' of the screwcap not relevant here. The seal is made by a liner inserted underneath the cap. It seals against the mouth of the bottle. If the liner has been dislodged, then the seal is broken. Obviously, no way to be certain, so I agree with Alex -- drink it now just in case.

Duly noted, guys. I've wrapped the whole top in al foil. What do you think my timeframe would be on needing to consume it?
Re: Dropped bottle - screwtop OK?
A few weeks? I think wax would be a better seal than foil.
Re: Dropped bottle - screwtop OK?
It is probably fine...like a 90% chance it is fine....depends on what your level of risk tolerance is like...
Wax won't do much but it is infinitely better than foil which is doing nothing....

I decided to go ahead and open it. I took some pics which may indicate that the seal was in fact affected by what happened and was no longer flush with the side of the cap (or, maybe this would have looked like this anyway after opening it)...
In any case, this wine is still available and the same price I originally paid for it, so I can always buy more

Better consumed than sorry!
Speaking of dropping bottles. Our ensuite shower isn't in use as a shower due to leaking tiles so we store stuff in there that the kids no longer use. It's also the coolest corner of the house so I moved a Rockford BPS magnum there from the pantry which gets warmer than I'd wish. I came into the bedroom last night to find the kids playing with some stored toys. I quickly went to see where the magnum was and it was there. I asked my eldest and he said me moved it. "I picked it up by the neck and put it down carefully but when it touched the ground, it made a loud noise". I'm sure it's fine but I have moved it back to the pantry

Redav, haha, I am sure it's OK, given it didn't break!
There is no safety lock on my wine fridge but if I have kids I will figure out some way to make it unopenable!
I hope your much rarer/$$$ wine than the one I opened is fine.
