September 2019 Purchases

Post by Croquet King »

Started the month off with

1 x Winston Churchill Pol Roger 2008
12 x Cuperly Grand Cru
6 x Giaconda Nantua Chardonnay 2017

Plus the Marius order
5 x Simpatico
5 x Symphony
2 x Matarius
2 x End Play
4 x Symposium
I appreciate all forms of alcohol, as long as its wine.

What is the Ruggabellus like?

I get Wendouree, Rockford, Sami Odi, Eperosa and Marius all from mail order. Should I be adding another to the list?

I don't know but after reading this thread I joined the list and tried to order some. Free shipping for orders over $150. Very fair for trying the wine. I can forward you the email if you want or you can obviously get it from the source as well.

Or we can catch up and have a look at a bottle!

I find that the wines are rustic yet complex. If that makes any sense. The beauty is in the blend. The whites are like Orange wines (ie on skins). Again, very complex. If you like the Eperosa Magnolia Blanc, you will enjoy the whites.

I’m on the list now for Ruggabellus, Wendouree and Sami Odi and find all 3 very good, but very different. I think you need to try the Ruggabellus before signing up - the reds I find have balance and class, but it’s the whites I am really interested in. These are very complex orange style wines that are not everyone’s cup of tea.

Ive not tried any of their reds (Ruggabellus) but know a few people that have (who have far better palates than me) they reckon they are unfinished wines and riddled with brett, hence ive steered away from them.

Good job finding a bottle, there appears to be no Terre Nere wines of any kind in Edmonton.

Silly sales at Marks and Sparks. Unfortunately I missed out on 2016 Cascina Morassino Barbaresco for £10, but did get stocked up for winter:
2 x 2001 Quinta da Cavadinha Port (£10 each)
1 x 2002 Royal Oporto (I think) Colheita port (£6)

I got these too. And their 2015's.

Hope I can get them to the cellar in Australia. At this price-point not worth the effort with the huge backlog of premium wine I have in UK and HKG.

I'll try one of each in their youth. I see Gary at WF raving about the Montefico.

Two of Gavin's Marius 6-packs.
And some Gunderloch GGs: a bottle each of the 2018 Niersteiner Hipping, Niersteiner Pettenthal, Nackenheimer Rothenberg bought direct from the winery in Germany. Less than €40 each; about half the Oz retail price.
And the Mount Mary mailer is here too...
