June Offline in ADL
Re: June Offline in ADL
Booking is for 7pm.
From replies that I can see, we appear to have 10 confirmed attendees.
Namely, Jamie, Phill, Jeff, Mark & Gail, Mark & Kane, Ian, Tony, John.
Are Dave and/or Chi going yo be starters?
I don't think it is a problem, as I booked for a maximum of 12, and Peter didn't seemed fussed that it could be 10.
See you all tomorrow.
Cheers
Jeff

Have your Chablis cooling its heels at home and will bring it with me (unless I accidentally drink it tonight )
Cheers

I got a text from Dave and he is definately a non-starter now. We are looking at 10-11, depending on Chi.
Forget about goodness and mercy, they're gone.

Hi all
I got to my cellar at dawn and pulled the corks on a 92 and 94 HofG. No need for a spare both are looking fine . Perhaps a decanter for the 94 if available?
Stems? BYO?

Just got a text from Chi, he definitely can't make it so we will be a table of ten.
I leave in around 20 minutes, will see you there!

Looking forward to hearing about the night gents..... Assuming all in good condition, I'm guessing HOG 92, Soldera 90 and maybe the Grange 73 or 78 in top spots, with obvious awesomeness in the two sweet wines and the Krug 02. Also hoping the 78 Monty showed well, could well be WWOTN if so.

Thanks gents. I'm alive and sorry I went MIA. Legs went from beneath back at the hotel when I dropped the decanter off.
I enjoyed the venue. Really well done. Great company and we should all share our great bottles on a more regular basis . Look forward to our next meet up.
The Vega Sicilia what a pitty. I got the taint on the palate only after deliberating in the fresh air on the street . Came out stronger on the nose eventually . Would have ranked high on the night in its extreme contrast to the Aussies

Re: June Offline in ADL
a few brief notes from a great night
Appetisers : Coffin Bay Oysters Natural and Smoked, Charcuterie share platter
2002 Krug Vintage - young, tight, and really good as it warmed
Krug Rose – fuller in mouth, aldehydic and went well with the smoked oysters
Entre: bacon wrapped Scalops
1978 Dom Jacques Prieur Montrachet – too oxidised for me
1998 Ravenau Chablis Butteaux – saline and sea shell, great length and mouthfeel
1994 Dom Bruno Clair Corton Charlemaine – much bigger wine and suited the salty bacon
Mains: Fillet Steak or Lamb Rump or Spatchcock
1973 Penfolds Grange Hermitage (Clinic) – nice showing but outclassed
1978 Penfolds Grange Hermitage (Clinic) – bigger wine, full, fresh and meaty. In a great spot now
1980 Penfolds Grange Hermitage – lighter in mouthfeel, more elegant than the 78. Feminine style?
1992 Henchke Hill of Grace – balanced, mid weight wine, spicy shiraz. Drinking well.
1994 Henchke Hill of Grace - Bretty
1996 Penfolds Block 42 Cabernet – elegance and power at the same time. Will be great in time.
1999 Vega Sicilia Unico – Corked. TCA. Bugger
1998 Wendouree Shiraz – big, rich and minty.Perfect recovery from the previous wine.
Desert:
1999 Chd’Yquem – Wow.Rich and sweet with perfect acid to cut the finish. Savoured this a while.
1990 Trimbach Pinot Gris SGN– completely different to the above and while it was clearly Riesling it also was classy and outclassed by the previous wine.
Morris Old Premium Muscat – rich fruitcake and spice. Hard to drink lots.
1930 Seppelt Para Liquer – rancio, raisins and better balance than above.
I did not get the full details on all the wines. Ian will probably fill in the gaps later.
An excellent night in good company.
cheers
Phill

Drink the wine, not the label.
