July 2013 Purchases

Post by shauno »

Wow, it's the 4th already & there's still not one of these threads! Guess it's my turn to start one & help the economy :)

Keen to try them all, ordered a case of each to split with work mates (thanks Gavin!)
I'll drink to that :)

Pleased with them all...and I will probably go back for more Ruggabellus when I have tasted one...if Gavin has any left!

2006 PIRRAMIMMA GTS x6
2006 PIRRAMIMMA STOCKS HILL SHIRAZ PETIT VERDOT x6

GTS was quite good even 2 days after opened.
Haven't try the other 2. Anyone has any idea how the other 2 wines in wine taste or drinking?

Make sure these get plenty of decant time if you are drinking now. The merlot maybe ok though.

1 x 1991 Wynns Centenary
2 x 1994 Wynns John Riddoch (oldest lads birth year)

Took a plunge at auction. They have great fill levels and look like they have been looked after. I paid a bit more than I wanted for the Centenary but it is just that good. I'd love to know a current wine that will be that good in 20 years time that you don't need to sell a kidney for!

Cheers
Ian
If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

Well done Ian, a couple of great pickups there. My oldest lads birth year also. Has a 6 pack of JR tucked away and a couple of magnums
Have not had a 94 JR for a while, but so hope its better than the 94 BL that I sent off to sparky a little while back.

I am starting to buy the 90s JRs at auction with the current releases being so expensive, wines with 20 years on them at half the current release don't seem so bad.

Yes I have 4 or so Centenary left out of a dozen, paid $28 on release. Should have brought much much more.
In terms of a wine that I wished I had brought more of that is still an absolute cracker was...a Pennies 86 Bin 28. $90 a case on release.

As insane as it sounds, I think 2010 LC Metala will do 20 years. I have put a couple of cases away
If Gav is still running this place in 2033, I will post a tasting note.

Cheers
Craig
Tomorrow will be a good day

An auction purchase.. 1995 Domaine Bart Clos de Beze burgundy, a Ross Duke import I would guess. Something to bring along to a future Sydney pinot offline.

6 x Evans and Tate 2007 Cab Merlot.
6 x West Cape Howe 2011 Cab Merlot (A bit of hype over this wine - will see what the fuss is all about).

Needed to balance the fridge - too much SA shiraz atm.

Supermarket Chain Special 2010 Church Rd Reserve Syrah for $23

No matter what old GK says (aka rants), it's an excellent wine. At that price you are hard pressed to get a red as classy anywhere

1 x Henschke Mount Edelstone 2008 $94
3 x Penfolds 2010 RWT (love this stuff) $128
1 x Chateau Cantemerle 2009 $79
1 x Tertini reserve pinot noir 2009 $55
3 x Freycinet Radenti 2001 sparklings $70
3 x House of Arras 2004 vintage $56

by gosh that added up quickly $$$ wise

I got some cheapies as well but I'd have to go look in the fridge to remember what they are. Just some mixed stuff for when we don't want to blow a pricey bottle.

Thanks for the reminer Shauno. Gavin's helping me with a case of the '12 Shiraz now and a case of the '12 cab when its in stock. What a stunning vintage 2012 is turning out to be in SA. I'm saving up for all the '12 reds that will be released over the next year or 3. Even wines at the cheaper end where I'm forced to inhabit should be good generally as you can't make bad wines from great fruit. YUM.
