February 2013 Purchases

Post by monghead »

Hey, I don't think anyone has kicked this off for Feb as yet.

For me, so far:

6x 2012 Grosset Springvale Riesling
1x 2012 Grosset Polish Hill Riesling

Cheers,

Monghead.

Sam I am too ...picking up Knappstien, Jim Barry, Horrocks, Pikes, KT and Crabtree this week. But will stop well short of 50 cases of 02's from all over Oz....madness but will get round to a big tasting at some stage

I think I might finally get some wine from our host...think that Grosset is bloody expensive and many posters on this forum have stated huge bottle variation under stelvin and that they do not consistently age well. But Gavin's price looks good.

By the way don't forget Eden Valley: Rockford vine vale, Pewsey Vale, heggies, Henschkes Peggy's and Julius are all fabulous, had a mini taste in the barossa last week.
Cheers Craig.

2 doz Robert Chevillon NSG Bourgogne red Burgundy 2010. Had the 2009 on two occasions recently and it knocked the socks off anything remotely near the pricepoint of $42. Will cellar 5 to 7 years easily, if I can keep my hands off them that long.

Getting into some French wine with 2009 chateau Citran. Not sure what it is - tannin profile, lack of alcohol or acidity but so easy to drink.
Also got a selection of the Wickham Rd Chardonnays and Pinots - all excellent at the price point.
Should probably change my name now too.

Well at $20/bottle I thought it must be pretty hard to go wrong and I wanted some Victorian shiraz as part of my quest for a more rounded geographical cellar
Interesting as well they have the 2009 available current release vs Bests Bin 1 Shiraz which is now 2011 (or likely "was" available, courtesy of the run caused by the JWT) and yet both are priced about the same (in fact on offer the Cliff Edge is cheaper)

2 days in the Clare Valley =

1 X 2010 Claymore Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Black Magic Woman
2 X 2010 Crabtree Watervale Wines Cabernet Sauvignon
1 X 2011 Crabtree Watervale Wines Tempranillo
2 X 2009 Jeanneret Leo's Garden Cab Sauvignon Cab Franc Merlot
1 X 2012 Knappstein Riesling Hand Picked
1 X 2012 Skillogalee Gewürztraminer
1 X 2009 Skillogalee Chardonnay
1 X 2010 Sevenhills Semillon
6 X 2008 crabtree cellar door release Shiraz
1 X 2006 Stone-bridge Aged riesling (already gone)
1 X 2006 Crabtree watervale riesling - museum release. (crikey this is GOOD!)

Was hoping to get back to Wilsons, Mount Horrocks, Pikes and Kilikanoon to replace stocks but alas ran out of time and boot space.

Next time! Harvest in full swing up there. Watch out for tractors and grape trucks. !!

6 x 2011 By Farr Pinot noir
3 x 2012 Wilson Vineyard Riesling
3 x 2012 O'leary Walker Polish Hill Riesling

The 2008 By Farr was one of the big surprises of last year, and I hear the '11 shades it.
