Tried 2 '96 Bin 389's last year - would have guessed from 2002 if blind also. Bit disappointing with all the hype. Definetly keeping the remaining 4 for a long time.

'96 Bin 28 is my favourite.

I started cellaring wine with the 2001 vintage and have bought a 6 pack or more every vintage. Each vintage was talked up highly at the time but some are now not considered so good I guess. I am drinking some of the 02's right now just to thin out my wynns collection a bit. They are good drinking bu...

2005 Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon Tried one of these after some good reviews. Strong Cigar and loads of sweet dark fruit, cassis. A little too much for me, strong and a bit sickly. Can see the similarity to Voyager in the cigar and cassis, but more iron fist and less velvet glove. Still consideri...

No notes but impressions from the weekend. Lake's Folly Reserve Cabernet '94 5th bottle out of 6. These have all seemed quite mature perhaps less than perfect storage. Corks have all snapped in half. Fruit started a bit thin but built with intensity. Plenty of spice and soft? acidity. Others with me...

As an amateur Juggler I would like to point out that Jugglers don't like being asked if a) are they a clown? and b) do they also juggle chainsaws? It's like when you tell someone you're into wine and they tell you about how good this or that Merlot is. (sure there are some good Merlots and some good...

Hi Jon, I don't post very often but thought I should reply since I recently bought 12 of these and have had 2 in the last couple of weeks. JO gave it 91 back in 2001 saying it had a green streak but should develop well, drink 2005 -2009. Many of the vintages around it have scores like 95, 96, 97, so...

Penfolds 407 '96 Nice aged Cab fruit, but the tannins were a bit too firm and overpowering. Wolf Blass Brown Label Cab 04 Good solid wine with hints of complex aromas hopefully they will come out more in a few years time, tar-y cab finish, savory, a bit of (oak?) sweetness but not too much thankful...

I tried this at the local DM last week. My impression was initially it had an interesting earthy nose that I liked because it was different. In the mouth it seemed like it was a good quality wine with a nice mouth feel, but as said before mostly oak and the fruit was looking a bit tired. Seemed like...

89 St Henri

Picked up an 89 Penfolds St Henri on the weekend for a good price. Probably going to open it this weekend. JO seemed to like it with 94pts but the Penfolds tasting guys seemed to think it was more of a difficult vintage. I've only had the 2001 and 1999. So not ever having a St Henri in the drink now...

I'm in the same position as you Ratty, except living in Sydney is much worse. A temperature guage on wine I've got under the house has shown around 22 - 23 degrees over this summer. Because of this I haven't bought anything too expensive and plan to drink within 5 - 8 years. I recently put some bott...

Voyager Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 02 The first night I found this very herbacious and the tannins were agressive and stuck out a bit. I didn't really like it. The second night it was much better, the tannins were softer and nice lighter fruits came to the front. Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvig...

Decanting Wine Questions???

Here's some quick questions for anyone who is interested... What sort of rules do you use when deciding how long to decanter a bottle of wine? Some people talk about some wine dyeing in an hour and others about needing to decanter for 24 hours. Also if they're leaving it for a long time do they cove...

Favourite Pinot Noir

Only been into wine a couple of years, had a few amazing glasses of Pinot Noir here and there. Ok, so now I want to explore this stuff properly. What is your favourite Pinot Noir? Why? Price range? What should I drink to get a good idea of what Australia has to offer? I'm mainly thinking about the m...

Seppelts St Peters 99 or 2000

Yesterday I was buying 2 bottles of Seppelts St Peters. I had to make a choice between the 99 and 2000. I went with 2000 based on Australian Wine Annual giving the 2000 95pts and the 99 90pts. But afterwoods found that the Penguin guide gave the 99 5 cups and the 2000 only 4 cups. Is there a misprin...
