Re: May 2024 Purchases

Got most of these at the cellar doors and some at the IGA in Rutherglen. They have a pretty good selection of local wines. Re: Standish Mailer

Anyone purchase wine in the Standish annual mailer today? I was able to purchase wine 45 minutes after the mailer opened up on the Standish website. Not quite the feeding frenzy of Giaconda or Sami Odi, reflecting the high price points and greater production levels than the other two. I purchased 2...

I received the mailer too, but will pass. I don't mind Gamay, but don't like it enough to pay $55.00. It may well be a good buy for someone that is really into the variety. The same for the Sem/Sauv Blanc.

I still think there is plenty of options in the domestic market...if only wineries here want to play. Or that the recent mistake, where a few of us picked up Seppelts Sparking Shiraz for 80% off…. Aren’t you dooming the industry if you think domestic options involve your recent discounts? Now grant...

Such a benefit being on the mailing list. Due to the scarcity of stock and demand for the wines, the mark ups in the retail space are huge.

The two best regions in Australia are Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. I prefer McLaren Vale over Barossa. The most exciting area for Grenache is the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale.

Expect red fruits - red currants, cherries, raspberries, strawberries, etc.

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

I’ve been drinking mature Cote Rotie all week from the likes of Vernay, Rostaing Ogier and Jamet. In the mix have been Clonakilla SV 03,04 & 05. What a beautiful style of wine. So refined and nuanced at maturity. I know SV blends have been whacked a bit in Aussie forums over the years but I do ...

I wish I could make it Jamie. Will be a lot of fun as Craiglee Shiraz ages wonderfully.

I love Craiglee wines, not just the Shiraz. I also happen to only live 20-25 minutes from the winery.

Have not tried the wines, but based on their website they may be made in a similar style to Setiono and Agricola wines. In other words, a more elegant style of Barossa reds.

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Another wine night back at the end of July – I have finally caught up on my notes! Theme was "20th Century Open" ie any wine from any region Prior to 2000 vintage. What a great theme, albeit a risky one with corks, storage and faulty bottles of wines over 23 years old. First time we have ...

2023 Pewsey Vale Eden Valley Estate Riesling This has to be one of their best releases yet. Florals, lime, lemon balm, talc and other stone minerals. The balance is impeccable, not overly acidic and a hint of residual sugar that just adds to the complexity. Those Eden Valley lime's are just singing...

Like last year, there are bottle limits.

Re: Some advice about Langtons please.

It seems like good old Langtons never change their ways. I swore off Langtons after auctioning off some wines several years ago. The wines sold, and after more than a month after the auction closed I didn't receive my money. After querying what was happening they advised me the person who purchased ...

Re: POLL: The Penfolds Collection 2023 - Are you buying any this year?

Penfolds wines are such poor value for money, and most of their wines completely lack terrior. I hate their formula winemaking.

I haven't bought any Penfolds wines in probably 15 years.

Wynns Black Label 2008 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. Having waited patiently for this it really hasn't budged in 10 years. More balanced though with tannins and acids reduced. Still a nice wine but patience required. I find with Black Label Cab Sav's they really come into their own at closer to 20...
