Re: Adelaide Offline - Friday 3rd May

Id like to propose that the theme is re-considerd. Personaly, I would prefer quality over quantity. And i can see alot ov old dirty Barossa shiraz being brought to the table. I also think its a bit silly when alot of us have a thousand plus bottles in the cellar. And some will need to go out and bu...

Re: Adelaide Offline - Friday 3rd May

Magnums sound great. I have a couple that need drinking soon. 1996 Pyrus and a 1995 Lanson if I can find it. Don't mind cliche but would prefer somewhere in the city.

Re: Adelaide Offline

Thanks all for a great night and to David for organising. Some very generous wine contributions, with special thanks to Jason for allowing us the privilege of trying the 08 Grange again and to Tony for cracking his back up Yarra Yering despite his magnum of champagne being faultless. Apart from a co...

Re: Best value champagne?

Lanson Gold Label for me. Can usually be had for around $50 on sale. Needs a few years in the cellar of course.

The 2002 was a real disappointment, but the 1996 is still drinking a treat.

Hi all I am just checking in again to make sure there are no cancellations for this eve? If so, could you let me know asap so I can advise the restaurant? I have paid the $10 per head deposit, and look forward to meeting everyone over Wendouree Gail and I are still good. I checked both wines at lun...

Re: Wendouree - Adelaide Offline

ive got 2 options with the 2011 shiraz. I can decant and pour back in just before i leave home or bring the trusty conical flask and do it on arrival. if the first part of the tasting takes about hour then decanting on arrival is probably the better option. I'm happy with in house glasses supplied ...

Re: Wendouree - Adelaide Offline

Gail and I would love to attend. I know I have a 1999 Shiraz Mataro and almost certainly have a cabernet from the early 2000s somewhere.

dave vino wrote:How did you find the CabSav?

Was my least favourite wine. Seemed a little green with hints of capsicum.
The roennfeldt road cabernet by contrast was lovely, despite a tricky 2011 vintage. A very subtle and balanced wine which I would never have guessed was from the barossa.

Re: Grosset Spring 2016 Releases

Was there yesterday. The notes above are spot on. The polish hill and springvale are tighter than previous years and seem to need some time. The chardonnay was fantastic. Would happily crack a few immediately and keep the rest for 8 years. The apiana seemed to really have benefitted from an extra ye...

Re: Greenock Creek Mailer

Went there today. The 7 acre, mataro and the grenache were the pick of the bunch for me. Not normally a fan of the grenache, but this year's alcohol was down to 15.5% and the wine was perfumed and full of red fruits on the palate. A very pretty wine. The mataro was savoury and complex. Seems a barga...

Re: Next Adelaide offline

We look a little short on whites. Given the lack of bubbles what would people say to a partially off theme champagne ending in a 6 plus a langtons wine ending in a 6 if Gail can make it? 2006 polish hill if I can find one? Will have to review my list and get back with non champers options. I would a...

Re: Next Adelaide offline

The food is nice at Star, but Thai is a tough match for red wine IMHO.

Might be better at somewhere like Citi Zen. A lot quieter for sure.

Re: June Offline in ADL

Very much looking forward to it mate! What is everyone doing in terms of backups? Tony I don't really have a back up in the requisite class. Could bring a 1995 Grande Dame to back up the champagne or Centenary to back up the Grange, but as noted previously, these are not up to snuff for a SOK night...

Re: June Offline in ADL

I have a left field idea if people are interested. The boardroom at my office in town will fit 12 people in comfort and would be very quiet. We would need a caterer. Two Brothers look good, but happy to hear suggestions.

What do people think?

Cheers

Re: June Offline in ADL

As per Ian's request, the Krug it is. I was in luck, unnamed retailer was out of the 2000, but just today received their 3 bottle allocation of the 2002 Krug, so that will be my second wine for the night.
