Adelaide Offline - Premium Single Vineyard Shiraz
Hi all
Thought it might be time for another Adelaide offline if there is enough interest.
I am thinking Friday 5th October if that works.
For those of you that are interested and would like to attend please let me know. I am happy to coordinate the venue etc.

Re: Adelaide Offline - Premium Single Vineyard Shiraz
Hi David,
so from an SA perspective it would be wines like Bowen Ampelon, Rockford SVS, Kays Block 6, Wirra Chook Block, Penfolds Magill, potentially something from Henschke, Standish...potentially even Marius ( premium wine but not at a premium price). Just running through a few SA regions in my head and thinking what wines would qualify, single vineyard in the absolute true sense of the word....or individual blocks in the same area??
YY Underhill, Craiglee, Jasper Hill, Dalwhinnie, Langhi, St Peters, Best Thompsons,
O'Shea, Graveyard...
Is this what you are thinking?
Date looks reasonable
Cheers Craig

You could bring one of those early nineties, $30 Hill of Graces Craig?

Re: Adelaide Offline - Premium Single Vineyard Shiraz
$27 actually Jamie...10% off for case buys...Henschke marketing department would be curled up in the foetal position, if only those sorts of buys were still around.JamieBahrain wrote:You could bring one of those early nineties, $30 Hill of Graces Craig?
No for a initial outlay of $648 and getting $440 a bottle and deducting sellers premium of 11-12% it left me with a bit over 9 grand. I went out and brought a very reliable second hand vehicle, that I had for 15 years....certainly was my wine car
I laugh and wonder if anyone has wandered into a dealership..." two dozen '12 HOGs here mate, what motor you got for $20 grand!"
No HOG (at least not that I know of)...of course if you are in little 'ol Adelaide we could commiserate about our respective teams and have a bit of robust debate.
Perhaps you might be able to provide said bottle from your Adelaide cellar.
If I can attend, I'll have to make do with one of the aforementioned 'lesser offerings'.
Cheers Craig

Re: Adelaide Offline - Premium Single Vineyard Shiraz
Australian wineries are serial blenders. Not much "single vineyard" stuff around and some may or may not be considered to be "premium". I've got a bunch of different Wynns single vineyard releases, for example. Are they premium?

Re: Adelaide Offline - Premium Single Vineyard Shiraz
George I have 15 of the Wynns SVS and yes they are all single vineyard wines drawn from discrete blocks. Wynns have over 40 different blocks.George Krashos wrote:Australian wineries are serial blenders. Not much "single vineyard" stuff around and some may or may not be considered to be "premium". Trouble is 13 of the releases are straight Cabernet and the 03/04 Johnson's Block are Shiraz Cabernet

Would you prefer Craig and George that we open up the theme a little so we aren't limited?

I think I’ve shared four bottles of HofG at ADL offlines over the years which were all really great events .
The tastings I’ve put on abroad I kind of regret . The Adelaide crew are drinkers whilst many of the HKG crew are tasters . Gutted to see glasses of it go down the sink .
I’ve only 11 bottles left promised to share with family .

Re: Adelaide Offline - Premium Single Vineyard Shiraz
It’s not a bad theme? Easy to do I would have thought? Especially across all the regions.
Would love to go and was supposed to be in ADL but off trekking now. Be there late Sept if anything else on.

I'm interested, but I think I will have problems fitting it in my busy schedule to early October.

I wasn't suggesting a change in theme, I was just trying to establish the parameters of the wine quality expected at the event. Going with my example, I can bring a 2001 Wynns Harold Cabernet (or an 07 Glengyle, etc. etc.) or I can bring an Rockford SVS, or something from Henschke, Penfolds etc. What's the expected standard?

Re: Adelaide Offline - Premium Single Vineyard Shiraz
Hi George
I would certainly put these few into the premium category.
It would be good to also include some SV Cabernets into the line up. So many choices.
Rockford SVS
Wirra Wirra Cook Block
Standish
Graveyard
Jasper Hill Georgia's
Kay Amery Block 6
Yarra Yerring
Bowen Ampelon
Craig, it might be the only time I would get the opportunity to try the 98 Ampelon again lol

And it's only now that I've realised that you specified shiraz. D'oh. Okay, that narrows it down. Ignore my previous posts.

Re: Adelaide Offline - Premium Single Vineyard Shiraz
There’s near 25 single vineyard Shiraz on the Langton’s classification ? Most from SA. Really, you guys don’t need help? I’d have though your cellars bursting at the seams with this stuff- mine certainly was/is!

Yes interesting concept this and thanks for David in getting this going.JamieBahrain wrote:There’s near 25 single vineyard Shiraz on the Langton’s classification ? Most from SA. Single region as many of these SA Shiraz's are, but single vineyard...there are very very few of those that are single vineyard or even single block
Woodstock Stocks comes off just 20 rows in one vineyard only
I can't claim I know if any of the 25 or so SA wines in Langtons are actually single vineyard...but quite likely e.g. Kaesler OB, Langmeil Freedom, Dead Arm, Stonewell, Aberfeldy, Old Block, Oracle, Octavius, Clos Otto, Lloyd, Johann George, Armagh, Run Rig, Greenock Creek, Mt Ed.
Anyway gives me a few more choices
Cheers Craig

Thanks Craig.
So do I put George and yourself down as a yes? If so that makes 4 of us so far.
Who else would like to attend? Limited to 10 -12 ppl. Always a great opportunity to meet people and share good food and wine together over a few hours.

Re: Adelaide Offline - Premium Single Vineyard Shiraz
Two hands do alot of single vinyard shiraz. All very premium.
Re: Adelaide Offline - Premium Single Vineyard Shiraz
TH have been busy in the last 10 years apart from Angels share..have never heard of the dozen premium flagship/singe vineyard labels...most inside 5-10 of age. I guess a big range of wines from $100 -$165 (yes expensive) but cheap compared with many other Barossa premiums.Hunter wrote:Two hands do alot of single vinyard shiraz. All very premium.
Not sure how many wines a winery actually need, seems they have quite a few
