2003 Hoddles Creek Chardonnay - excellent QPR

From the Yarra Valley. Good quality cool climate fruit in the melon-grapefruit spectrum, with ovelays of honey and white peach.

I think there is plenty of acid there if I looked for it, but it is soft rather than harsh or austere and the fruit was hiding it pretty much. I thought the fruit was the main component in the wine, with the oak very much in the background.

Not your typical Aussie chard. Great value at $13. Bonus of a screwcap closure. Drinking quite well now although would keep well and probably improve further over 3-4 years.

regards
Chris

Chris,

I have gone through a case of the 2002 and agree entirely with your comments.

I have a 2003 to try, so I might open it this week and see.

Definitely excellent qpr!

Cheers
