Thanks James. Have you ever spent time with the Kay Brothers diaries? Fascinating resource with a continuity pretty much straight through from founding until now.

We have just finished looking at all of the rainfall from the diary. 1914 has 280mm.

Loving what James is doing with this history of McLaren and it's vines/wines etc. Thankyou. I felt really bad not enjoying a Kay brothers shiraz and saying so on forums recently. I can only call it as I see it though, and re-iterate that while my thoughts could be of use, they do come from someone very young in terms of their wine journey and rather unschooled, unlike Mr Hook, Mr Starr & others.

No need to feel bad - call them as you see them. I personally prefer the 2004 Amery shiraz to the 2005 version (don't know I've had the 2006 yet), and sometimes McV shiraz can show a bit too much hotness for me as well.

And I'd also consider myself "unschooled" - certainly not an "Advanced Taster"

Thanks Paul, I appreciate it. And whatever you think of your qualifications, I do find there is much to learn from reading your posts here and elsewhere. Ok, I'm blushing from gushing today But I do mean it, and I do call it as I see it, trusting that others will pull me up if I make mistakes.

How about 2002 Amery Shiraz? I have had 99,00,01 and enjoyed them very much but I can't just get the same pleasure from 2002. It was the first release under screw cap. I wonder if it's got anything to do with it. May be they did not make the necessary changes during the production to accomodate the switch to screw caps ?!?! Don't wan't to start another Screwcap vs Cork debate and I am for screw caps, but just can't understand this wine.
