Can we put something together to raise some money for those hit by the bushfires in Victoria. I can put some wine up. Any ideas?

Maybe Mark Wickman could put together a charity auction with all the proceeds to go to charities helping those effected by the bushfires? It might be worth contacting him to see if it's possible, although I admit it's very short notice to put something like this together.
Cheers,
Ian

A noble idea, and I like the idea of an auction
I was driving home to Melbourne and was diverted past the Kilmore fire. Terrible stuff.

Great idea. Surely we've all got a little 'gem' we can sacrifice and hopefully make a difference to somebody's life.
Open to suggestions how it happens, but I'm looking into the cellar right now!!!

I'd love to help out - not sure if i have anything worth donating that people would want to bid on, but i can certainly help by bidding on something myself!

I had a talk with Mark, and it's a little too short notice to be able to really put something together for his next auction. A nice idea, but unfortunately it isn't going to work.

The total devastation and loss of life from these fires is just so unbelievably sad. The tears well up just watching it on television.

It's a shame the auction won't work. What I've done so far is donated to the Red Cross appeal - as I figure the money will be well used. The link to do so is:

Is there any way of making it work? Particularly when the need will be around for a long time.

Just heard from my Vic agent that a well known wine rep along with his wife and child didn't make it.

I agree. If an auction (or something else) can be organised in the future then I will support it. In the meantime a donation to the Red Cross will help. The company I work for has just donated $1m to that appeal and will match any donations by staff dollar for dollar.

Mark sent me a message that his software to handle such an auction is being rebuilt and won't be working for a while. He has offerred his assistance if something else can be organised.
Are there any suggestions or should our support be with the charities appealing for money?
Any thoughts - would love to do something wine related.

Fully agree, Paul G, and I am in the process of donating online as we speak. I hope many others do the same.

For those of us outside the country the Red Cross is the best place to donate. Several friends have been asking about what would be the best way for them to contribute and I've suggested the Red Cross.
Here is the web site again
http://www.redcross.org.au/vic/services ... l-2009.htm
We have donated but it seems such an insignificant act given what we have been able to see on the net and the TV here in the USA. And I'm sure what we have seen has been sanitized for consumption here in the US where any sort of tragic event is kept from appearing as such.
Our hearts go out to all those who have suffered loss from the fires.

I'm not sure if this has been publicised widely outside of Australia, but the red cross appeal has now received over $31million in donations.
