Summary of last nights wine dinner.

Post by Rory »

'01 David Tregear Verdehllo
Im havent had much experience with this variety, but it was a pleasant wine on a hot night and a good one to start with. Some tightness on the nose, citrus flavours with some zesty acidity and dry finish.
'99 Bannockburn Chardonnay
Travelling well, nothing out of place, fine, structured and elegant, but perhaps lacking some complexity that this wine usually has in other vinatges.
'98 Orlando Russet Ridge Cab/Shiraz/Merlot
Suprisingly drinking very youthfully with loads fo good fruit. and acid and good tannins left. Will easilly see another 5 years to get to it's best.
'96 Penfolds Kalimna Bin 128
Great wine, good depth of fruit, ageing well, beginning to melow and soften out, but still with some tannin left to see it another 3 years or so till it's plateau. In the blind tasing, not picked as a Penfolds.
'99 Cheviots Bridge Cab/Shiraz
Fruit from avery corner of the country went into this blend, and unfortunately not very successfully. Too green.
'94 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz
Second time in a year I've had this vintage, and it's a pleasure to drink. whilst not having the power or depth of the better years, it's probably at it's best and is still very good.
'91 Wynns Black Label Cab/Sauv
Nothing needds to be added to what has already been said about this wine and this vintage. Will go on for years!
