Dear All
The missus in her infinite wisdom has suggested a week in SA post wedding as a pre-honeymoon honeymoon. (Don't ask).
Having never been there I would be grateful for:

1. Must Do's
2. Places to stay (Adelaide, Clare, Barossa)
3. Places to eat; and of course
4. Cellar doors.

Keenly await your expert advices!

I second the Melting Pot and can't comment on Petrus (but I'm spending New Years Eve there, so can't wait ...).

For cheaper eats, any of the "Chow" restaurants in Gouger Street in the City are fab, with T-Chow being my favourite (order the Tender Duck and the Sizzling Venison).

In the Barossa, have lunch at Seasons of the Valley in Angaston. In the McLaren Vale, lunch at Salopian Inn will prime you for a great day's tasting.

If you are splurging (after all, how many pre-honeymoon honeymoons are you going to have ...?) then I suggest you go to the Bridgewater Mill at Petaluma's winery/cellar door for Sunday lunch. Pure hedonism. They have a website so do some surfing and see what's on the menu.

As for cellar doors, as well as the ubiquitous Rockford and Charlie Melton, Veritas is a great one too. The 2002 shiraz is out in cellar door only at the moment and if it is better than the '01, it's a great drop with wonderful value.

Both Chow's are wonderful, add the crispy skin duck to the list, byo costs you about $2 or so ... and the food is wonderful.

In the Barossa Vintners is worth a try also, food well cooked. Salopian is great, or a short drive tales you to the beach and a Star of Greece lunch works a treat.

While in the barossa Valley, the wines at Liebich are worth a try and visit, as is Whistler (close to Veritas) plus Pennys Hill in McLaren Vale, and Pertaringa down there also.

Nus restaurant in Adelaide.
Make sure you have some Mount Barker smoked salmon somewhere.

Cellar doors as recommended, especially Rockford & Charles Melton in the Barossa.
In the Adelaide Hills, Ashton Hills & Petaluma, also Nepenthe.
In Coonawarra, Bowen Estate is a cellar door not to be overlooked amongst the usual suspects - for the wine only:-)
