i am wondering if anybody is able to enlighten me as to how this wine is currently drinking. I am assuming that I should be drinking it rather soon, but am happy to take on board any more current and knowledgable suggestions.

Campbell @ The Winefront recently had the good fortune to take part in a vertical tasting of Grange from 1952-2005. If you're a subscriber you should be able to see his tasting notes they're quite interesting and very informative. With copyright and all, I'm pretty sure I'm unable to post his tasting notes here, but the gist from the TN on the '68 was that he wasn't terribly impressed. Be worth giving it a shot as you may have a very different experience to him.
It's worth becoming a subscriber if you're not already.

Whino,
Well, from the Penfolds 'Rewards of Patience' guide (2004) by Andrew Callard (well worth finding & buying) it reads:....
1968 - NOW
Medium brick red.Complex herb garden/ baked earth/ meaty aromas. The wine still has some fruit sweetness, with baked earth/herb/ minty flavours and fine sightly tannins. Beginning to dry out.
94% Shiraz, 6% Cabernet Savignon. Kalimna Vinyard, Barossa Valley.... A hot dry vintage with only intermittent rainsduring the growing season.
Hope this is of some help

I've had it a few times and IMO its dead. Babychickpea suggests getting a 'Clinic-ed' bottle as some are ok.

There will be a lot of interest in 1968 wines this year for those who are turning forty.
