I need to know of some nice restaurant in Melbourne (not too expensive) that I can take my wife for our one year anniversary.

Thanks

Have a look here: http://redbigot.info/BYORestaurants.htm#Melbourne

Most of these recommendations are from the members of the 3 main Aus wine forums.

And congratulations to you both on the first year...

NOT BYO... But try Vin in Prahran.

Great food and even better wine at Bottle shop prices (+ a corkage fee).

Highly recommend to all wine enthusiasts.

Craig

What type of food does Vin provide?
Sounds interesting.

Also

I might be going to France Soir, so what do you guys recommend (red) to go with French food? (98 Bin 389. 99 Saltram No1. 98 St Hugo)

These guys used to have a phenomenal wine list, especially on the French side. Why not try summat from there. Red wines from Cahors, Languedoc, and southern France in general need not break the bank!

Cheers

If you like Japanese food, try Chiba in Moonee ponds. Not at all expensive, and always packed with Japanese people.

Went to Matteo's in Nth Fitzroy for Birthday late December.

Fantastic food and Service

Enjoyed 1990 Bolli, 96 386 & 28's and 2000 Paringa and Stonier Reserve Pinots from our cellar.

Have booked return visit.

For Asian BYO try Asiana in Albert park - great asian food and high end wine list.

It's a great concept. Especially for those of us that put as much value on the wine as the food, but don't like to pay too much for it.. ;)

Food is modern Australian. Some very interesting influences with a bit of French and Italian and a sprinkle of Asian flavours.

Personally, I rat ethe food at about 7.5/10. Up there with the good restaurants, but not exceptional.
