Concrete Wine Cellar

Here used to be a WA mob that made circular concrete cellars with a spiral staircase that could just be dropped into a big hole in the ground and people have asked on the forums occasionally about these sort of pre-constructed cellars.

This popped up as a Google Ad on my site, they appear semi-randomly so I thought it might be worthwhile documenting it here. The company is based in SA, but claim to deliver Australia wide.

ahh yer. It was still comparably cheaper for me to build my own that to buy a precast.

Here is another version of a pre-cast underground cellar:

** I emailed Cellar Creations about this product. They said that the total cost, delivered to, and installed in QLD would be around $50k

I'll stick with my $350 wine fridge for now :)

50k is absurd.

These people should make arrangements to manufacture locally in the bigger cities, I imagine freight on a 40 tonne lump of concrete is pretty savage from Melb to Bris.

Yer, transport is probably the killer. Still for 60k, you can make one yourself, and have it any shape and almost any reasonable size you want, and even with an easily accessible staircase.

They said about $5k of the total was for transport.

So a bit of concrete and some formwork costs 55k.

I think it's digging the hole. I had an earthworker here and asked him how much for a 4x4m pit. He refused to give me a price, just said I must be mad.

pfft, I had my hole dug out by a front end loader and bobcat, cost me 2.5k, that included them returning to backfill, compaction, compaction tests, levelling and carting the remaining earth away.

The hole was 6x6, with a ramp for access, road fill on the ramp for traction and about 3 meters deep.

Hells bells Dunc. How do you reckon they get swimming pools into the ground?

You need to discuss this wih another earth mover.

I forgot to mention the rock. Lots of rock. I'd need heavy machinery to put retic in :-(

Strategically located urea with about 10% diesel usually helps

I mean get out a pick axe and start chipping away at the rock and build your own natural cellar.
