TNs wanted: 00 Coleraine and 00 Wantirna Estate Amelie

Post by bacchaebabe »

I was recently given both these wines as a present. They aren't wines I have bought before and while I expect there's plenty of info out there on the Coleraine if I go looking, I haven't seen much on the Wantirna Estate.

Anyone have any TNs or even just drinking windows on these wines.

TIA
Cheers,
Kris

I haven't heard of Coleraine (NZ?) but Halliday comments on the 00 Amelia thus:

Bright red-purple, the bouquet has firm, earthy blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, the fine and elegant palate with ripe berry fruit and cedary oak; long finish, fine wine. Not rated (by Reg Egan's request)

Apparently it's NV.

Oliver gives it 18.8, drink 08-12.

Kris, not a TN, but I tried the Coleraine at an instore tasting in Brisbane a couple of months ago. I was impressed. Only lack of cash stopped me buying some. Didnt write TN's at the time, my memory is foggy, except I thought it nice now, and a 4 to 6 year keeper, no longer.

cheers

Andrew

Both Cabs are fantastic. The 2000 Coleraine was the runner-up red at Vinexpo in Bordeaux this year - no small feat considering the competition! Powerful, fine-grained, very intense and long finish, needs at least another decade before it will show its best.

The 2000 Wantirna Amelia is a more delicate style of elegant Cabernet, again from a great year. I'd give this one another five years before drinking.

Your friend has been very generous - you've got a couple of brilliant Cabernets there.

Thanks everyone, that's a great help, especially the vertical notes at wine of the week from Sue.

Funny thing is, they were gifts from friends in the UK who are not really into wine at all, let alone wine from the other side of the world, but know that I am. My friend who chose said she knows a lot more about wine now than she ever has before (which wouldn't be that hard really).

Good to know they should keep until at least one of my friends gets out here to drink them with me.

Thanks again for all the advice.
Cheers,
Kris
