I've been an avid watcher of the weekly wineweek.com.au series. Some interesting wines and it's nice and snappy and doesn't take up much of your time on a Friday afternoon.

Recently recieved an e-mail from them stating the following as their best wines reviewed for 2007.

T’Gallant pinot grigio 2007 ($12-15)
Kalleske Clarry’s Red 2006 ($18-20)
Jacobs Creek riesling 2007 ($8-12)
Petaluma Hanlin Hill riesling 2007 ($19-22)
Saltram Pepperjack shiraz 2006 ($15-26)
Highbank blend 2001 ($45-$50)
Zema Estate cabernet sauvignon 2004 ($20-$25)
Torbreck The Steading 2005 ($38-$45)
Thorn Clarke Shotfire Quartage 2005 ($18-$24)
Wirra Wirra Church Block 2005 ($18-$20)
Olivers Taranga shiraz 2004 ($25-$28 )
Buller Fine Old Tokay NV ($18-20)

I only have a couple of these in my cellar but look forward to trying some of the others.

I wonder what others thought of this list?

Matthew,

I haven't seen wineweek.com.au, but do they mainly concentrate at the low-to-mid end of the market or have a particular price point for their 'wines of the year'?

Jacobs Creek riesling 2007 ($8-12)
Saltram Pepperjack shiraz 2006 ($15-26)
Zema Estate cabernet sauvignon 2004 ($20-$25)

i have tried these 3 myself, I found all quite enjoyable. The Zema was the best by far for me.

They do a few minutes show every week. Just talk about some wines. The prices and quality vary. As you can see they recommened the Jacobs Creek Riesling $8-12 through to the Highbank Cabernet $45-$50. You should subscribe if you're interested.

I had the Petaluma Hanlin Hill Riesling 2007 yesterday. I thought it was brilliant! Very concentrated and intense...but that may have been the special 2007 vintage of course. I haven't tasted any earlier vintages, so I don't really know. I'll post TNs later.

I've also had the Pepperjack, which I think is a good shiraz in that price range.

We do look mostly at mid-to-lower end (priced) wine. There's not much point in us reviewing Grange, Hill of Grace or d'Yquem... there are lots of guys and girls reviewing that end of the market who are better qualified (and probably better with their palates) than us. Our "best" was in part based on 'bang for the buck"... and partly to try and find the best wines in various price points... thus a wine that can be had regularly under $10 appearing on the list, and The Steading getting a run infront of the Run Rig... there's no doubt the RunRig is better - but the Steading is much better value for most people.

Just a quick note... we're giving away two sets of the complete "best dozen of '07" to our subscribers. I hope that some here might want to subscribe, 'cos I'm sure most of you wouldn't mind some free wine!

Subscribing is free and gets you an email update when the weekly show comes out.

Actually the 07 vintage wasn't the best for Clare riesling but it was pretty good. I find the 05 vintage superior across the producers for mine.
