Mount Mary help needed

Hello Mount Mary fans and drinkers.

I need a little assistance if I may, as I've very little experience with these wines.

I need to know which vintages of the 90's were the best, for Mount Mary, and specifically for the Mount Mary Pinot Noir.

Which are the best regarded?

Gavin,

I think the best Mt Mary PN from the 90s was clearly the 1991 and John liked the 1995 as well ( I would rank it second).

1994 & 1998 are ok but pass on the remainder IMHO.

In the 80s MM was at the forefront of PN for Oz but has slipped since, whereas the cabernets/Quintet is regularly among the best in Oz.

If you are looking for Quintet from 90s (the more general question) : 1990, 1991, 1996 (this last is not ready) are the pick with 1998, 1995 the next best for me.

regards

I don't know anything about MM myself, but I thought in the last week someone mentioned on the other forum the 2000 vintage of the Pinot was about the best of recent vintages.

Cheers,
Ian

Ian,

the request was for "90's" (which may include 00 at a pinch I guess)

2000 PN in Yarra was pretty good (most of the recent even years have been) but the particular wine is not as good as 01 or 95 (albeit I did not include it as I took a more restrictive view of the parameters)

Thanks for the help, greatly appreciated.

from the Mount Mary Newsletter for 2003 they tasted and rated the following Pinot Noir
Good: 1990, 1994, 1997, 1998
Very Good: 1991, 1995, 2001

from the Mount Mary Newsletter for 2004 the following comments on Pinot Noir
"In the last twelve years only 4 have been very good to excellent: 1992, 1996, 1999 and 2000. Despite all this, our experience is that in the lesser years our wines are not as horrid as some of the Burgundian failures....."

I have tried the 1991, 1994 and 1996 in the last year and 1991 is definitely the best of the three.
