Leeuwin Art Series Shiraz '00

Post by Rory »

Drank last night with Duck with a cherry & Star Annise glaze, and turned out to be a god match.
The wine displays great depth of dense fruit on the nose that follows onto the palate with a touch of feral, almost Great western, edge. Lightly chewy tannins with well handled oak & acidity.
The only let down I felt was the short finish, as the palate fell away too quickly.
I don't think this is going to go anywhere exciting with age, but it's drinking well now.
Cheeers,
Rory

Rory,

I tried the wine recently, but not with food. I found a white pepper character in the wine, the spice and colour of it reminded me a little of a young Cote Rotie, without the lifted nose. I enjoyed it,a nice wine for a first vintage effort.

Cheers

Hi Grant,
I must admit that the whole time I was drinking the wine, I felt as though something was missing. There should have been some spice or something there, given the region, so it doesn't suprise me you found "white pepper" in your tasting.

Grant,

Its the first commercial release in Oz but they did make a small amount for export in 1999.
