Unfortunate moment

Went to a local country bottle shop in SA to get a bottle of wine for my wife and I for our dinner and noticed Fox Creek Reseve 1996 Shiraz at $16 per bottle. Fortunately I bought the lot unfortunately there were only 18 bottles available. I was 1 happy camper. That was 5 years ago and every bottle I have had since has been sublime....

And?
Are you posting this to say that it is still holding? Or was it just a happy recollection; $16 was a good buy.
I quite liked the 1997 vintage from recollection myself.
cheers
Carl

Hi Griff actually both its still holding up very well with years left in it and yes it was a bargain. I think they priced it incorrectly (non reserve instead)

My brother had a similar experience.....
Walked into a small family owned bottle shop on Clarendon st in Sth Melborne. Spent a bit of time perousing the shelves to find this dusty old bottle on the bottom shelf. Blew off about a centimetre of dust to reveal a 1986 bin 389...... With a price tag of $6.99..... Mind you, this was in 2004.
It was very, very yummy.....

Very strange. $6.99 would have been well below cost for the 86 Bin 389.
As far as the 96 Fox Creek is concerned, that was in the early days of six packs. Many retailers divided the case price by 12, rather than 6, so the consumer got the wine at half price.
Brian continual sweep of wine prices picked us up a heap of damn good wine at extraordinary prices (half price.)

still happens in NZ. I know a big wine shop that has a hawkes bay classic 2004 Brookfields Gold label Cab on shelf at $28 instead of the usual $60. been that way forever

When I first started collecting, I went to a few bottle shops in Adelaide. It was a hot day (35deg) I visited a few to see their range, also see if they had any treasures hidden away.
I went into a bottle shop/drive-through in the eastern suburbs and walked straight out again. The shop was hotter than the air temperature outside. I would be wary about buying from these places.

Recently picked up a Voyager 2003 cab/merl for $23 (spewing they only had a single bottle) and 5 x 1998 St Henri’s at $55. My wrong priced gems of recent times.

I bought a bottle of 1995 Rockford BP for $34, there was one bottle only in the store left. It was a very decent bottle indeed. very happy

Yeah not bad (you win
). I have not yet opened any but will this weekend. Very supprised no good. Is it the wine you don't like or was it the condition?
