September - What have you been buying this month??

Ok I will start the monthly thread this month since i was pretty happy with todays effort
Managed to pick up a bottle of 04 Penfolds Bin 28 for $9.99, slightly water damaged label. Then even better 04 Penfolds Bin 389 also for $9.99 slightly water damaged label. O dear how sad. gotta love those bargain bins at times
On top of that this month at pretty good prices
3x 05 Foxes Island Chardonnay $25
2x 06 Johanneshof Gewurz $23
1x 07 St Clair Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc $26
Another month well within the self imposed budget to make up for the two or three months earlier in the year light years where i was not so thrifty.
So people, what are you buying. What is hot? What is a bargain? What is trendy at the mo??

3xZema Family Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 $39.99
3xZema Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 $19.99
4xPolleters Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 $24.99
2xThorn Clarke Shotfire Ridge Quartage 2005 $18.99
the 2nd and 4th wines were bought as top ups.
The mixed case was from the one source and although the wines may have been available individually from different sources for bit less, free freight and convenience of shopping make them good value.
Apart from other daily drinkers, picked up a case of Jip Jip Rocks Limestone Coast Shiraz 2005 as a quaffer for $11.39/btl.
Cheers

In need of a light month this month, but will be getting a mixed case in a few days time (including a half doz of TeMata Elston Chard 05).
Next month a handful of bottles from a trip to Piemonte & have to see what the pre xmas auctions throw up.
Need to drink more as well!

2 x '00 John's Blend Margarete's Shiraz

4 x Squawking Magpie The Cabernets 2002
1 x Domaine Courbis St Joseph 2004
2 x Pegasus Bay Riesling 2006
3 x Wirra Wirra Church Block 2004
1 x Kumeu Mate's Vinyard Chardonnay 2006
1 x Johanneshof Gewutz 2006
12 bottles or so of "everyday drinking wine", including Gemtree Tatty Rd, Villa Maria PB Pinot Gris (pretty good), Vidal merlot/cab and various others. Also keep seeing 2006 Wither Hills Sauv blanc very cheap, so got a few bottles of that - Brent Marris' "mistake" is our gain at the cash register.
The squawking magpie cabernet is the best bargain - $24, and the 2002 is a beauty... lovely rich fruit flavours and balance. Its the only vintage I've had of this wine, discovered recently. I've read more recent vintages have been more ordinary, but this is lovely (and its screwcap, which I'm happy about).

I tasted it alongside the other new single vineyard chards at the winery and thought it stood out. I'd like to cellar more of this vintage and some of the 2005, but I'll need to save up. Maybe next month...

Funny sort of thread this one... anyway, since overseas trip, spending habits been curtailed somewhat (that and impending child!)
Anyway,
- 3 X 04 Henschke Euphoniums
- 1 X 06 Glaetzer Bishop
- 1 X 05 Shaw and Smith Shiraz
- 1 X 06 Shaw and Smith M3 Chardonnay
Good, solid SA standards I guess.
Hopefully some foreigns from auction.
And to be precise, an 03 Chateau Lagrange and a Mazer Nino Negri 05 Nebbiolo from O/S.

12 * 06 Hoddles Creek Pinot
6 * 04 Zema Cab Sav
6 * NV Seppelt rare DP90
6 * 06 Glaetzer Anaperenna
Mixed 05 Faiveley:
8 * Bourgogne Rouge
2 * Mercurey clos du myglands
2 * Gevery Chambertin les Cazetieres
Plus half a dozen mixed NZ from Malborough (Can't remember what they were right now but there were two Clayridge pinots in there, one the excalibur)
And at duty free, 2 bottles of southern comfort and 2 bottles of vodka
This week, I'll probably get six each of the 05 St Peters and NV Silverband Sparkling Shiraz.
I've been trying to be restrained this month. Actually some of those may have been from last month but they been sitting by my desk at work and I only took them all home yesterday.
Oops, forgot about my Wild Duck Creek order too.
I think it was:
6* The Blend
3* Springflat Shiraz
3 * Alans Cabernet
3 * Reserve Shiraz
3 * Reserve Cabernet
No duck muck or sparkling duck available this year so that saved me a bit of money!

Thankfully a quiet month so far with only a couple of bottles of 98 Musar. August was big though with 2005 Faiveley's, Clonakilla SV, Seppelt Rare Tawny and some 2004 DRC!

I had my first bottle of the Seppelt Silverband NV sparkling shiraz last night with bbq roo. Went down very well, including with the anchovy butter that dressed the roo. Great to see a sparkling shiraz with a good tannin profile. Will drink well over the next few years, and worth buying.

Red Bigot I have not recived my delivery of Briarose Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2005, but given that it beat some very smart company to win Best Cabernet Sauvignon at the 2007 Royal perth Wine show I reckon it is worth a bet.
I will lay them down for a while I think.

Ian, what did you think of "The Ned"? I quite enjoyed the couple of bottles of 05 I had, thought it a very good representative Malborough SB.

Buying classic aussie stuff in London ... that I can't get in NZ ...
Six-pack of Mt. Edelstone 2002
Six-pack of Rockford Basket Press 1999
And random single (but enjoyable) purchases of lots of 05 Burgundy from Majestic simply to try - mainly around the $50 mark ... not the ex-y stuff.
Rioja. Reservas. Silly prices for the quality ...
Jay.
