TN Cape Mentelle 1998 Cabernet-Problems Anybody???

Drinking a bottle now. Anyone notice any problems or variation?
Nose was as advertised-classy and varietal. Berries, violets and mocha, the oak blended in. The palate flows quickly in to a bitter green fruit or astringent eucalypt finish. Very disappointing.
Steak for dinner and the palate cleansed with a glass of 97 Dr Thanisch riesling and soft French cheese.
The wine purchased in Wiesbaden, Germany. Cork in good condition. Must say Margaret River wines crop up in the most diverse places on the planet!
First bottle of Cape Mentelle so not familar with the style just the reputation!
