Jumbuk '01 Shiraz & Pierro '96 Cab Sauv

Hello everybody,
this is my first post on the forum, I am , however, a long time 'lurker'.
I live in Glasgow, Scotland and have been a wine buff for a couple of years now, normal side effects including constant surfing for bargains, completely skint and abuse from partner
I have recently bought quite a few wines from a merchant in England at excellent prices including Charles Melton Cabernet and Shiraz, Eden Springs Cabernet, Shiraz and Reisling, Brokenwood Graveyard, Blanche Point and Arakoon Sellicks Beach.
They were selling a couple of wines I'm not familiar with -
Jumbuk Shiraz 2001 + Pierro Cabernet Sauv 1996
wonder if anyone can help?
I bought them anyway!
Look forward to being enlightened.
Cheers!!

Hi Dis,
I have been a fan of the Pierro Cabernets for a while. Had a 1994 a couple of weeks ago. Thought very good example of Marg River cabernet.
My tasting note:
Really liked this. Strong cassis, gravel, tobacco/leaf nuances. Palate good strucutre and feel. Furry tannins to finish. Good drinking now but may improve for a year or two more and then hold for a long time.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Craig

Hi Dis,
I've not heard of the Jumbuk Shiraz. Where did it come from out of interest? The Pierro Chardonnay is the only one of theirs I came close to but can't remember anything of it bar the expense, around the $50 mark if I recall correctly.
regards,

Thanks for the replies guys.
Hi Simm,
Yeah it was a new one on me too!
It has been created recently by Mount Horrocks Vineyard, other than that I have no clues. It will be interesting to try a completely new winery, I have no clues on vine age, methods of production, cases made or anything else.
I will post a tasting note when get the delivery.
Cheers!!

I don't think the latest Mt Horrocks newsletter (which arrived last week) made any mention of Jumbuk wines.

I presume this is from the Wine Vault closing down sale.
Hope you have more luck with delivery than me. I ordered a dozen & it was due on the 29th Oct, but 1st he forgot to post them (understandable considering the interest at some one-off prices) & then the delivery firm broke two of the bottles & returned the case to him. We were meant to get delivery at the start of this week, but still no wine yet...
Re: Pierro Cabernets 1996 - rated highly by Jeremy Oliver in 2001 annual with drinking window 2004-2008+. Not tried it myself though.

Hi Ian,
Yes it is Wine Vault
This doesn't sound good....I got the same excuse ie. broken bottles and returned delivery last week, should've been delivered today but no sign either.
I have sent another e-mail to ask for delivery company name and details, hopefully tomorrow.
Thanks for all the replies and I will have plenty of notes to post if they all arrive
cheers
David

Kieran, Ian & Jamie,
My first cases have arrived
!!
The Pierro is the 96 Cabernets, seems to be well liked generally, cool!
The Jumbuk has this printed on the back -
Jumbuk Vineyard
2001 Shiraz
Clare Valley
A full flavoured generous Australian Shiraz
carefully crafted from old, unirrigated hand tended vines
Produced for Jumbuk Vineyard
by Horrocks Wines Curling St
Auburn SA
I think it may have been created through the Distributer - Domaine Direct
Anyway, good looking but plain bottle
FWIW was recently reveiwed by Decanter Magazine here in UK -
Jumbuk Vineyard, Clare Valley
**** (4 Stars)
Eucalyptus, menthol, concentrated blackberry aroma with hint of vanilla. Juicy. Firm, tight structure. Moderate fruit weight plums/berries, balanced. Drink 2-10 years.
£10.87
I'll try myself soon
Cheers

We got ours today as well & all in one piece, which seems an all too difficult task for couriers!
Hope you enjoy the wines.
