Deep crimson red. Very powerful, even explosive aromas of mulberries & plums, with intense moccha-coffee, malt & chocolate overtones, yet with a hint of underlying earth about it. Despite this fanfare of a nose, I find the wine quite soft on the palate. Tannins have faded considerably (I remember this wine being very powerful when new), and although coverage across the palate is pretty even (courtesy of the blend?) it’s neither especially long nor complex. It’s slightly hot (14%) as well, making me think it’s in no dumb phase, but really in need of urgent drinking. The label doesn’t specify the percentage of shiraz v cabernet in this wine, but I’ll bet its mostly shiraz. For the $32 this cost two and a half years ago, I’d have expected a little better. My verdict here is drink up – I don’t think this will improve.
