And, is HOG really $550 retail these days? Last one I bought was $200. No wonder I don't buy it anymore. Does anyone? I'd be more inclined to go the Grange over the HOG but both are off the radar these days.

The last HoG I bought was the '92.
Last Grange was the '99.
Generally off my radar too...

Last HOG I bought was 92 $NZ150 and 96 Grange $NZ260

I have seen 99 HOG in NZ lately for as low as $210 and as high as $600. Grange 02 I have seen as low as $399 and as high as $599

Good on the new up start wineries that manage to put out good stuff at good prices. This has to be the leading end of the wedge that any wine fan with their own brain needs to concentrate on, not the trophies that lemmings chase.

I bought HofG 02. I rated it 97pts. WOTY so far with nearest comparison a 75 Crozes Hermitage at 95pts.

World class wine at a fair price I think.

Great wine, tried one and no regrets. Would like to go beyond 6 but this would defy my wine buying mandate- no more than six of anything.

ive only tried 4 vintages of HOG.

89,90,93 and 94.

90 and 94 were stunning. 89 was excellent (surprisingly) and the 93 was complete and utter weedy crap

Its a great wine overall, but unfortunately at the price it is offered at now, it never is considered by me.

Is that because it is a Shiraz or because you don't ever ever spend that much on a bottle of wine?

$260 is the most ive ever spent on shiraz (96 Grange), which by my quick calculation is I think the 6th most expensive wine ive ever purchased. I have a very loose rule that i let myself spend over $100 a bottle once a year. So far this year I think ive only broken that rule a handful of times

Oh and before you ask, the wine ive spent most on DOES have sauvignon blanc in it:

there, I am searching for some of this wine Bremerton Old Adams 2004 Shiraz & came apon this forum, and ideas on where I may secure some of this Bremerton wine would be appreciated.

So far I have used google without success, unless you call a wine list in a melbourne restaurant any help

Hi yes their website was first on the google list.

Their order form says sold out.

But they have many distributors around OZ & the world. Queensland distributor sold their last bottle yesterday of their 20 dozen allocation. All oter australian distributors have sold out.

I have emailed the dozen international distrbutors in countries such as singapore, malaysia, UK, USA, Canada, and heard back from two so far with no stock.

Switzerland distributor has advised they only have 02 & 03 stock!! and for me to buy some in australia!!

Edinbugh Hotel (Mitcham SA) had one bottle as of tuesday morning, after the article appeared in nationwide papers they received orders via email for 6 dozen from all around australia.

National Wine chains have no stock, First Choice, Dan Murphy's

Skye Cellars have none. John expressed dissappointment that the advertiser and other papers run these feature stories when there is NO availability.

All of the people I have rung could answer straight away, as soon as I say the wine with an amused/apologetic tone in their voice. Some have said that they have not seen this much hype over a wine for a long time.

On line overseas retailers Cold Storage (Singapore), Tesco's, Sainsburies (UK) do not have any.

Austalian online retailers do not have any, getwines, cellarit,

Why did the paper talk up the wine when thre was no availability? I suspect it was delayed so that those in the know could exhaust supply first.

What are you wearing? lol I tried ringing the NZ distributor this morning from OZ, but with the 0800 prefix in your phone number it did not like using that. (I recall 0800 is some kind of freecall domestically in NZ)

Sounds a good mark up, I have noon eclipse, cabernet, shiraz & VP that I might have to sell a bottle of (or two of eclipse) to take up your allocation

Congrats to Rebecca Wilson. I've been really impressed with the Bremerton wines. Bremerton Selkirk Shiraz is highly recommended in my part of the woods. Great stuff if you like grunty wines. Had the 2005 last week and only $21, so excellent value too.

Don't get your knickers in a twist over this wine. That rating is just one persons opinion, many others may rate it far lower. Halliday (and any other reviewer) is not God and their opinions are not infallible.

Highly rated wines are like buses. Miss one and there will be another one in ten minutes.

From 1996 to 2002 Jeremy Oliver rated the wine between 83 and 90 points and ranks the wine a 5 (that's the lowest ranking number he uses.)

In the 2006 McLaren Vale Wine Show it was awarded a bronze medal with a score of 16.5

It also won a silver in Perth.

I am not running the wine down (it also won 4 golds) but I am pointing out that different people have different opinions....... and it has not won a major Trophy.

Even if you track it down, it does not mean that you will like the wine. You can't drink points!

yeah your website came up as an external link on redbigot wine buyers guide. I cut & pasted the names of all of them ( most sold wine, or were search engines for places that did)
Robyn Bradley (gold book) rates the label as five stars, I know this is the second best classification he uses denoting "the continents best". can I drink stars then, instead of points

Totally agree about chasing point wines. Eddie the Eagle is making a late run as this has been around for a while.

Pfft. Noon Shmoon. I already have a substantial amount of Drew's wines thank you very much!

However, I would consider a swap for Grand Cru Burgundy...

TORB's advice is very sound. If you chase all the high points scorers, you'll have an impressive sounding cellar (albeit a little focused on show ponies), but no guarantee you'll like them.

By all means use critics TN's as an opportunity to prompt you to try a wine out, but don't go chasing the wines - there's just too many to do that.

That trophy is not listed on the Bremerton site, so they can't think its important.

More to the point, the SIWC is wine judged with a particular food dish. It's not about the wine by itself. So if the wine is lucky enough to be a perfret match with the food, its home and hosed.

Try the Lake Breeze "winemakers selection" for another excellent Langhorne wine - 2002 current vintage but in my opinion at least as good as anything Bremerton make.
