Anyone tried the 1987 LEAS chardonnay lately? Putting together early Christmas wishlist, and thinking of popping the cork on a mag - drink or hold (with usual caveats for provenance)?
Thought it might even be nice to hold this until 2007, but can't seem to wait that long...
Cheers,

I have had the honour to try it twice in the last 6 months.
This wine is peaking with limey leasy chardonnay fruit and still some acid.
I really dont think it will improve just soften.
Go now and go hard.
The first bottle was in Adelaide at an off line and I am deeply grateful for the chance to try it.
The second was with Mr Hohnan (sic) himself with a bottle from the winery cellar and it was even younger.
Let me know if I can help you drink it
all the best

International Chambertin Day 16th May
I had this wine 2 months ago, like Adair thought that although it was an extremely fine drink it is probably not getting better. My tasting note (Scribbled the day after the night before was)
"Really good tropical fruits, creamy, length. Really very good for its age. Great to drink" and I thought it outstanding.
Cheers, Craig

in which it responds...
Hi guys, thanks for the responses. This bottle is a magnum, so although I haven't the full cellaring history, I am hopeful based on your comments that it will still be a drinker.
I think I will pop the cork this Christmas after all - the last LEAS chard I have bar 1 bottle of the 95 (with me here in Japan)...
