This was superb after a quick decant and matched with wild mushroom and porcini linguine.

Deep plummy, slightly cloudy purple in the glass. Really impressive, aromatic nose that showed more and more with time. To begin with there were aromas of cherry, plums, cloves, and some spicy oak. With time there was more spice and some more floral aromas too.

The palate is medium bodied and bristles with energy. Cherries, cranberry, undergrowth, a stalky element and spice flood across the palate. Unobtrusive oak and a great depth of flavour with plenty of interest to keep me coming back to the glass and decanter. Well structured around a core of fine tannins. Powerful yet poised and restrained. Excellent wine.

93/100

I've just dropped a note into the Boutique Wineries section re: our Open Day on Satuday, 8 September.

We'll be opening up all of the Hillcrest wines ever made for a bit of a look, so if you are in the Yarra Valley that day feel free to drop in.

Cheers
David
