Willunga Creek Wines - Any Reviews?

Does anyone know anything about Willunga Creek Wines? They are located in McLaren Vale.

It seems they won a Gold Medal and a Bronze Medal a couple of weeks ago at the "International Wine Challenge" in London (for their Black Duck Merlot and Black Duck Shiraz, respectively). This is supposedly the largest wine show in the world...which sounds quite an achievement.

I have never heard of them or had a chance to taste their wines. Are there any South Australians out there who can comment?

Nick. the IWC may be the biggest in the world, but (like any show) the results do not necessarily match local consumer preferences. The IWC and it's international wine show ilk have a track record of awarding many medals to Aus wines that don't rate that highly on the local scene.

James Halliday gave these wines 87 and 89 (Recommended range scores) respectively for the 2004 vintage, so they may be fair value at $20. It was the 2005's that scored in the IWC.

I've never come across their wines at retail, no listings on wine-searcher other than some 2004's in UK.

The man who wons the winery is our Real Estate agent Dave Cheesley. His wines are only available at the winery, via the web site or when he sends out our statement at the end of the year with an order form attached....hint hint..

I havent tried them yet but have friends who say he makes a nice drop.
