Hi all,

Has anyone tried the new 2005 Viking Wines yet? I received the mail-out this week and prices seem very reasonable @ $30 each.

$30 each! That's what happens when you burn your local clientelle and get carried away with some USA success only to have Uncle Bob Parker drop you big time. USA doesn't want to know you and you've got all this overpriced wine derrrrr!

Back to basics for these guys having to eat humble pie and try and establish a local market again.

I'm in the Barossa next Monday with half a dozen Blacktongues so we might drop in and try them.

Might end up being a few more in the same boat too

Could be a few more as you say.

The sensible owners took advantage of the Parker created markets but maintained a sensibly priced and well serviced domestic market too.

An all your eggs in one basket strategy fails almost every time.

Look forward to seeing thoughts on the 2005 Vikings as some of their early vintages that I happened on looked very promising.

I have this scary image of the Black Riders from Lord of the Rings descending on an unsuspecting cellar door and causing no end of havoc

Yes it's a bit like that. A bunch of Blacktongues isn't as scary as TORB darkening their CD doorstep though !!!

Yes, we made it to Viking CD but they were closed. Maybe they heard we were coming!

I'll try to get there next time I'm in the Barossa as I do have a corky for them to replace.

I just received an email from Charmaine and in it she advised the reason that I had not got the samples yet was due to a bottling problem. That also might explain why they were closed.

The samples will be sent as soon as the wine is available.
