Confirmed for me - thanks to those helping to get things together.
Perhaps I should bring some special QLD wine to share

Me organising? I've just put the bite on Nayan to make use of some of his spare time!
Where ever we go we need a fixed price for the food including unlimited corkage. A number of establishments have trouble with that concept whereas Soho, The Sauce etc understand what we're doing. Nayan was checking out Georges in the CBD, does someone want to check out the Greedy Goose and see if they can come up with something suitable then we can decide.
I may not be a starter anyway so I'd prefer not to get too involved.

I'll call the Greedy Goose tomorrow afternoon and report back tomorrow night.

I've called Greedy Goose, they will fax a copy of the menu out, but as I'm not in work I'll get it tomorrow. They cannot let me know about any deals on corkage until Saturday at the earliest, so we'll just have to wait. Unless anyone finds an alternative in the meanwhile, of course.
Cheers,
Mark

Have talked to George at Georges(!) they can offer a three course meal with unlimited corkage for $75 per person.
The sample menu that they have sent through goes something like this:
home made bread
primi
calamari fritti, or
carpaccio of beef, or
risotto of lamb with peas, tarragon and parmesan.
secondi
fish of the day with caponata and salsa verde, or
chicken thighs baked with chilli, garlic and white wine; served with parsnips and broccolini, or
scotch fillet with anchovy baked potatoes served with a caper and herb butter.
Mains are served with a green salad and Italian rosemary potatoes
dolci
vanilla bean panna cotta with seasonal poached fruit and hazelnut bread, or
citrus pudding with orange segments, mint and pure cream
The price also includes coffee or tea at the end of the meal.
I can see if they would be able to change the sweets to a cheese platter, if people want (though I still think red wine and cheese is not a good combination).
I need to firm the booking by Tuesday, so that gives us time to find out what TGG has to offer.

I think the $75 price looks at bit steep compared to our usual venues (and especially considering the three course menu looks very similar to the one we had at Giardinetto in Brisbane for just $35.50/head, which also included bread and tea/coffee). Is this more costly because of the mezzanine area?
Cheers,
Ian

I'm happy with wherever- except Asian dishes for two reasons: I live in Hong Kong and secondly they don't match SA reds too well.
I'll bring two bottles- one Red Edge from Heathcote I think you may find interesting as it's hard to get. And another older red from the cellar.

No. Their standard group booking menu is $65/head. Corkage is usually $15/bottle...
I'd be happy to cook if anyone has a dining table big enough, and is willing to let me create havoc in their kitchen...

Looks pretty similar to their standard menu from a couple of years ago - I always wanted to try the Vincisgrassi but never went back, while the Blue Lake beef fillet is outstanding.
The 3 course menu's great but the crunch will come with the corkage, and it's also worth checking if there's any sides/veggies included with this menu too - the last time they cost extra and weren't exactly cheap, although we split 4 between 6 people to keep it reasonable. Good luck Mark - we're counting on you to screw them down to make this the venue.
Cheers,
Ian

Yes agree Ian, I find getting screwed for my passion for a good feed of spuds and greens offensive.
Let's see what's included and how they deal with unlimited corkage and plenty of vegies and what the cost is then.
I'm not keen to leave restaurants that do a great deal and great food just for the sake of going somewhere different.
I'm angling to get to this one.

I am more than happy with either option mooted so far. So i guess this doesn't really help make a decision.
I just want to get to the part where we talk about what were taking.

How did the Adelaide Crows go today?

Not good news for Greedy Goose, people. Whist the "sides aren't too bad ($2 per person) they will not negotiate on corkage on a Friday or Saturday night. This means $15 per bottle (but they have assured me they do a goood job of serving, even going so far as to decant the wine!).
Cheers,
Mark
