Where to buy Block 42 or Bin 60A?

Hi all - I am an Aussie who moved to Seattle 7 years ago.

I am wondering if anybody on the forum has been able to get a hold of the Penfolds 2004 Block 42 or Bin 60A? I have asked around locally and had no luck. I can find Grange around here pretty readily on release, but nobody seems to know anything about this stuff.

I assume you mean the 2004 editions.
They were all sold out months ago.
Your only option is the auction market I think.

Weren't they sold on indent? When is the wine actually due to be released (not in my price bracket though)? With 04 Grange in 2 years?

July 1 I think, maybe earlier.
BTW, they are sensational wines, 96+ points imo.

Hah! The Foster's corporate entity isn't going to do something so silly as sell out a wine in advance, merely to 'collectors' or 'enthusiasts'. How can you use that to build brand awareness, create a positioning in the marketplace, capture the 'aspirational' buyers...?

I'd be very surprised (pleased, but surprised nonetheless) if Fosters doesn't do plenty of high profile tastings of these wines in North America (and make them available for sales as well) in order to encourage people to buy more Rawsons or Thomas Hyland.

Penfolds isn't being run by guys like Max Schubert, you know...
cheers,
Graeme

The Penfolds Brand Mgr here in the US told me the release here will be late 07 (labelling issues among other things are responsible for the delay apparently). 02 Grange will be 1 June.

Can't find a printer who'll quote for only a two-colour job eh? :)
cheers,
Graeme

Thanks for the info Mike! Hopefully somebody local will be able to carry it.

I have been waiting for the next lot of Grange too. Glad to hear it is just around the corner.

I have seen the new Block 42 and Bin 60A for sale at a certain grocer's store, in St Peters and Glenunga in Adelaide. Both priced at $495.

Interesting NEW label, and even more interesting, both are sealed with WHITE screwcap.

Just a note regarding a question from a member about availability of Penfolds 2004 Bin 60A and Block 42. Foster Group (Who now own Southcorp/Penfolds) released the wines on Monday June 11th (W.A), I put mine straight into wine storage. The wines which had to be ordered in 2004 were well oversubscribed and most people would have been lucky to recieve half of the allocation they would have liked. They will now start to appear on the secondary market, most notably auction houses. I don't think you'd have any luck at your local wine store.
