America has White Zinfandel, now Australia has White Shiraz!
Banrock Station White Shiraz RRP $6 - $8 - Recommended to be served chilled.
I don't know when this will get to NZ, so a tasting note would be appreciated if anyone gets to try it.
What I want to know is - Does it taste like Shiraz?

A small producer in the Adelaide Hills produced a white Pinot Noir for a vintage or two
was going to call it
Albino Pinot
It tasted alright, like a subtle dry white, very slightly meaty and quite refeshing.

I drank some of it last night - it's a pale rose pink and it's OK, a bit sweet but with some heavy, near-death chilling it'd come up all right. Does it taste like a shiraz? Aaaaaargh, well, you see, the thing is, it's sweet and juicy and vaguelly redcurrantish, I suppose. So at a stretch: yes.
But not a very good shiraz.

Miranda has had a white shiraz out for a few years now. Never tried it but others at work said it was not bad(does that mean not good?).
Here is what Mirand'a website says.
The Shiraz fruit for this wine is picked earlier than for red table wine to promote fresh fruity flavours such as cherry and raspberry. Harvested in the cool of the night with the juice separated from the skins to prevent the extraction of colour and tannins. Cold fermentation has created a unique wine that has delicacy but still carries the spicy varietal characters of the Shiraz fruit.
If you want a bottle Sue i can get one at work and send it to you..its only about $10 a pop from memory.I'm quite happy to shout you as i have learned lots on your website.A great help with the kiwi pinots which i love.

I agree TORB..i have had it in the fridge at work for 2 years and never been even slightly tempted to try it....i concur..YUK!!!!!!!!!!
I also have learned a lot at your website..great source of info on non pinot reds.
ps we also sell a c thru/ white cab.sav from Stoney Vineyard/Domaine A called Aurora..i have never tried it either.Nor likely to unless the boss opens it.

Sue..everyones palates are different..as i said a few people at work have tried it...no one found it offensive.but it's not something i'm interested in. I only offered to send it to you as you were curious to try a white shiraz..and we sold one.and i would bet the miranda would be nicer than the Banrock. What i dont like..others may and just as Torb hates most pinot..i love it.I certainly meant no offence to you or your palate..just thought i could help get you a bottle at no hassle and little cost.
I'll tell you what i'll buy a bottle tommorow night and post a tasting note for you....both mine and my wifes thoughts..she has a great palate for flavours being a chef..and 2 opions are always better than one..If you still are curious i will happily send one
