Today my uncle got nme Elderten 1997 Command Shiraz as a present. I don't really know much about wines, but i'm interested in learning everything about it (yes - a newbie!)
he told me to go on this forum and ask for taste notes(?), and said that you'll give me all the information i need.
thank you!!
btw, is it a good present? anyway, it's the thought that counts!

Hmmm... elderton website doesn't have the wine anymore. You could always email them.
It is made from old vines, and I think in the bigger style. 1997 was not a terribly good year from the Barossa, but it is Eldertons flagship wine and is probably still pretty good, maybe other forum members may be able to reveal more.
Welcome too.

Hi Ester,
It is a top shelf wine. There is my tasting note from 2001, it should be just about at it's peak drinking by now.
Elderton 1997 Command Shiraz
The nose is fairly complex with cedar, tar, dark berries tea and eucalyptus. The slightly dusty tannins still need time to integrate with the young acid and very persistent deep fruit that show sour cherries, tea and aniseed on the palate. Surprisingly enough the wine is only medium weight, with a firm consistency, layered structure, an intricate developed complexity that leads to a long lingering finish that hangs around for ages. Rated as Excellent now, the rating may improve over time and I really would love to try this wine in seven years.
