I wont have internet access on my pc near the cellar so dont want to rely on a program that needs internet access.. And not ms access savvy!
other programs look great and fairly easy to use.. cheers!

I took a look at the Uncorked Cellar as well....

what did you think of the uncorked cellar one.. downloading the trial now!

It is ok, its a bit clunky.

You don't need to know anything about Access, just have it installed.

As another newbie I was recently faced with a similar dilemma.

I downloaded the Red Bigots Cellar Tracker and played with it for a while, as well as downloading the Uncorked Trial version which I ultimately purchased.

I must admit that after not very long at all I came to a simiar conclusion as "Paullie", and that the Uncorked Cellar Database was a bit clunky.

I am now happily using the Red Bigots Cellar Master, finding it much easier to use, and meeting my demands quite nicely. Wishing I hadn't parted with the $ for the Uncorked database, would rather have spent the $ on wine.

Shh! That's my cunning plan, the next upgrade will refuse to display any white wines in the cellar and people will have to pay to remove that restriction!

I'd like to find a program which would run on a PDA (Windows Mobile 5). Anyone heard of such a beast?

I don't think there is a full cellar database as such for Windows Mobile, there are varous wine-related software though, depends on what you want, spend a bit of time with Google and you'll find what's currently out there. I think there was one that had a desktop and pda version linked, but it's a while since I looked.

I started looking at building a system for the pda, but the small screen size and large number of data items/code sets makes it fairly daunting and it looked too difficult and less than satisfactory to me.

I just periodically export a subset of the data from the RB Cellar Master into Excel format and dump that on my pda.

I'm trying to find a cellaring program that is hooked up to an extensive wine database so it AUTOMATICALLY tells me which wines should be drank when (i.e. rather than me entering in this manually) after I have entered my wines into it. At the moment I've got wines which I've got little idea when would be the best time to open them and am hoping that such a program could solve this issue for at least some of them!

Anyone got any recommendations?

FYI, I've tried RB's and manageyourcellar dot com which both seem very good for recording your wines but don't seem to have the information I need. Winebase MIGHT have it, but the demo doesn't link to the tasting notes so I can't tell yet - so maybe if anyone has bought it out they can let me know what it's like?

Surely it depends on how you like your wines...

For example, I like my reds with substantial bottle age where most of the primary fruit characteristics have subsided.

Cellartracker is a user defined system and has drinking windows for many of the wines entered into it. It might be what you are after

Padster, the info linked to winebase (Gold Book) is widely regarded as of little use amongst most serious wine enthusiasts. As Nayan said, there is no third-party reviewer whose drinking windows will match your own preferences all of the time. Buy the Jeremy Oliver book or subscribe to his web site and spend a little bit of time entering the data, it won't take long.

RB's program works perfect for what I want.
