From the Brisbane Times ....

"WINES from the 2007 vintage are starting to appear in retail outlets, months earlier than normal because of a bizarre growing season that saw grapes picked several weeks ahead of schedule.

"De Bortoli released its 2007 Windy Peak Sauvignon Blanc Semillon during the week, despite the company's King Valley vineyards being almost wiped out by frost, fire and drought"

"In South Australia's Clare Valley, winemakers are planning for their first Easter holiday in more than 30 years after the earliest vintage in living memory."

It's the Aussie wines that have been released - that's what I'm asking about.
Anyway, the 'recent weather' wasn't everywhere. While we were wandering around with our wellies on last Wednesday and Thursday, Marlborough got little more than a drizzle. Sauvignon harvest is going pretty good down there from what I've heard.
Cheers,
Sue

Pam Lincoln of Oranje Tractor Wine Albany WA reports that they completed their vintage six weeks earlier than last year.

Early vintage in Aus?

Arrowfield (Hunter Valley) harvested their 1979 (sic) Gewurztraminer on the 30th and 31st of December 1978.

I sawed it wiv me own eyes, I did!

It was on sale at Camperdown Cellars in the first or second week of March.

I was at the winery in mid 79 and remember them telling us this story as we sampled their wines (I was still tasting/drinking whites in those days, the folly of youth.)

I shared a bottle of 2007 Charles Melton Rose of Virginia a couple of weeks back when I was (briefly) in Adelaide. A Barossa rose, picked, made, bottled and drank before the end of March.

Campbell.
