Wine: 1997 Leconfield “Cabernets” (cab sauv, merlot, cab franc and petit verdot)
Massive, vibrant, red colour. An abundance of red berry fruit on the nose, along with all those great aged cabernet aromas: a handful of earth, some leather, old wood and lashings of cured meats. Palate is leaping around every corner of the palate with cured meats, small red berries, smoke and perhaps a hint of thyme. There is a distinct saltyness to the wine, much resembling vegemite. This wine has so, so many more years ahead of it still. What a fantastic wine. So elegant.

Wine: 2004 DeBortoli “Noble One”
Masses of roasted almonds and flowers leap from the glass. Palate is filled with bitter grapefruit, lemon zest, honey. It had the slightest hint of spice from ginger. There was a trace of plastic present as well. Crunchy acidity backs it all up, ensuring a long life. Beautiful.
