Petaluma Riesling 2003

Nowhere near as austere as the 2002,and undoubtedly a nicer drink at the respective stage of development. Having said that, this one does not have the potential of the former and will not be as long lived. I recall the mouth numbing acidity of the 2002 and its awesome length in such a comparison. This is a very nice wine though with typical lemon and lime characters on the nose and palate, more forward in the fruit dept and drinking nicely as a result.

Wynn's John Riddoch Cab 1985

Found stored on a cupboard shelf for the last 14 years. Cork like a piece of fetta cheese. What are the chances of this being OK? Voila!! Rising like a Phoenix out of the ashes, presumed dead but the heart is beating strong! Very nice wine, looked in the glass like a 8-12 year old but coming up to 20 and still with plenty of time. Time has softened the tannins and has given the wine a lovely secondary nose, herby and earthy, leather too. Only 12.2% alcohol, quite interesting, very balanced in the mouth as a result, very good length. Drinking well now, will hold for another 5 years at least.

Cheers
