TNS: Heritage Wines (Barossa): 5th October 2003

Post by Adair »

2002 Semillon: Sweet lime, lemon and lanolin flavours on a soft palate that is relatively more refreshing that most Barossa Semillon. It is a great combination of complexity and liveliness given the style. Rated at Recommended/Highly Recommended.

2000 Cabernet Malbec: Complex flavours of florals, violets and blackberry. Elegant wine that simply does not possess enough fruit depth for the structure to be anything more than Recommended.

2001 Cabernet Sauvignon: Mouthcoating, flavoursome wine of black fruits and sweet spices with a touch of typical Cabernet-ness. Rated Recommended/Highly Recommended.

2001 Shiraz – sold out

2001 “Rossco" Shiraz: Big, ripe style that did not cloy and was not alcoholic. Quiet a fine, big wine. Highly Recommended/Excellent. Bought a magnum!

Heritage wines are very well made. They allow the fruit to speak instead of winemaker. This results in every wine possessing interest. This contributed to a thoroughly enjoyable visit to the cellar door. The enjoyment was also a result of yet another example of great hospitality given by a smaller Barossa wineries.

If you go there, and I recommend you do so, give Lucy a pat for me!

Hi,

Can't agree more about the nice people there (Langmeil and Rockford also nice).

I have tried and really enjoyed the 01 cabernet, and agree with the fact that they tend to be fruit driven and not overworked.

Well priced too.
