Hey guys,
Worked out that you have to be a member of one of the exhibitors to gain access on Monday trade day
![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
Pretty frustrating as I would of been happy to pay. Just wondering if anyone has a spare spot on their list for me if you are one of the exhibitors. Would much appreciate it! PM me if you do.
cheers

not really, just part of the industry, which is quite large when you consider, producers, wholesalers, retailers, F&B outlets, etc..
so know any retailers willing to sign you up as part of their team?

The pay is pretty ordinary, but the fringe benefits are great. Thanks Gavin.

So who is going to wine australia?
I bought a platinum pass so I could go to the Friday night event. VIP or some rubbish - I just want to have at least one go at it without all the crowds and can't get monday off work even if I was trade.
I should be there Saturday afternoon and if I've not had enough, I might come back on Sunday too. Hoping to get the best tastings done on Friday night though before it all runs out!

I'll be there Sat/Sun/Mon (going to Red Chilli on Fri nite), mostly hanging around with Ric. Should be easy to spot the two shiny domes of the two founding red bigots.
You should know they save the best stuff for the Trade day on Monday!

So I should bump into a few familiar faces (and domes) then.
Have fun all.

Went yesterday (Sun).
Qualified via the "Who Wants to be a Swillionaire?" to be in the draw for the wine cabinet (drawn tonight). Woo-hoo. Wish me luck.
(back at work to day after last week in Port Douglas. Grrrrr)

Graeme

Were you the Saturday person, or did they pick up a few more people on Monday?
And were the 4 doz. wines any good?

On the note of "Trade" entry to Wine Australia...... my family owns a vineyard and have been producing fruit for one of the countries most famous winieries for 30 years yet the marketing manager for WA did not see us as being suitable as growers to have access to "trade day".......
i think that the marketing manager would not be so excited if the slogan for WA read "Wine Australia, Australia's largest collection of empty bottles" ... which is what it would be without growers.
Has anyone else had this problem??

Tough as it might seem, the Trade rules for Wine Australia exclude non-participating wineries and others in the production side, the Trade passes were clearly designated for those in the buying/sales/promotion/education side of the industry.

that may be the case but seems fairly stupid to me..... as growers, wine makers etc are the ones producing the wines that are to be promoted and sold as such event...... why must marketing people be so close minded.....

ohh and on another note... "tourer operators" were eligible.... this basically covers bus drivers..... WHAT THE???

Not trying to defend Wine Australia organisers, but there is a bit of a wine glut currently, I'd be focussing on potential buyers rather than grape-growers or wineries who don't exhibit at the show.
And to be fair, wine tour operators can channel a large number of bus-fulls of rotgut-swilling punters to help soak up the lake of wine at the wineries that need that sort of business, or even a few smaller bus-fulls of keen premium wine-drinkers who are being responsible and not driving.
Finally, don't forget that "Wine Australia International 2006 is presented by the Winemakers' Federation of Australia (WFA)." not just a faceless marking company.

redbigot i understand where you are coming from i just think that this fragmentaion of the industry is a very shallow look at the industry from the organisers point of view....
maybe they will get it right in the future??
...and on the wine glut point.... send they junk to USA, they'll drink anything
