Hi,
I have seen some really high scores (96 or 97/100?) from a winery called Journey's End on a retailers website. Has anyone tried them and where are they available from?
thanks in advance
James
journey's end
Re: journey's end
I think it is Nicks own brand.....and I guess they are available from the retailers website..was that a trick question?
James,
You should be aware that many posters here (including me) find many of Nick's scores somewhat unfathomable and erratic. I've bought a few of his highly-rated wines in the past and had quite mixed results. I never buy there now until I have independent verification from somone whose palate I trust, ie some of the people here and/or some of the wine press with whose ratings I have positive affinity from past experience.

Thanks guys,
I get the picture. If Journey's end is in fact there own wine, then it is very unethical to give their wines very high scores and sell them off as if they have 'just discovered it'.
I know what I will be doing with my money, wait and buy a good value red that the forum recommends.
many thanks

James,
I don't know what the exact relationship is, they may just be exclusive agents or may have put money up to have the wine made, you could ask them I guess.
To be fair, I don't think you could describe Nick's as unethical, just often unfathomable and inconsistently generous with points, at least from my perspective. If I was in Melbourne I'd certainly buy a bottle to try and decide for myself if I thought it was worth the price. It's from a very good vintage for the area and a top winemaker.

I don't think Nicks have anything to do with Journeys End. I found this on their website:
Vintage Direct/Nicks Wine Merchants have no investments in any suppliers or vested interest, we do not have a preferred supplier or a ‘mates system’, nor do we accept kickbacks from wine companies to promote inferior wines.
Good enough for me
