Brief Tasting Notes - 1 Upper and 1 Downer!

1992 Seppelts Botrytis Gerwurtztraminer (375 ml) - only 11.5% alcohol, but had depth and intensity suggesting much more. Opened with superb "cumquat liqueur" nose - deep citrus peel aromas, deep gold colour. Smooth and intense on palate, great depth of flavour, plenty of acid holding things together beautifully, cumquat flavours lingering on and on. I'm no big fan of sweet wines, but this is a real treasure!

1999 Domaine Machard de Gramont Nuits-St-Georges burgundy (Domaine de la Vierge Romaine)- disappointed again in the ongoing search for good burgundy at affordable prices! Watery light red colour, little on nose, no more on palate except acid. Drinkable with food, but a waste of time and money at $23 or thereabouts.

Edrobins,

For an affordable Burgundy, have a look around for Domaine de la Vougeraie "Terres Families"...should be around $35....it's very good

Cheers

good burgundy at affordable prices

Ed - don't think such an animal exist here in Oz - given we have a Federal Govt rip-off tax of over 40% on top of the import price and importer margins !! :x
