Sorry for the late start.
I will add a further clue every 10 or 15 mins. Here are the clues:
Who am I?
1. My wines are well regarded for their ability to age
2. My vineyard was initially planted with cabernet sauvignon and shiraz from selected clonal planting material
3. My vineyard was planted on alluvial sand and clay loam overlying a clay and quartz/ironstone gravel subsoil
4. I have been known to play the Oboe
5. Late spring frosts are a constant hazard for the vineyard I established
6. Chardonnay and Pinot were varieties added to the vineyard
7. I am considered by many to be a winemaking legend
8. After early trials, 1350 litre and 2700 litre American oak casks were used for my shiraz maturation
9. I used to drive a Bugatti
10. My wines quickly gained a reputation both in Australia and overseas
11. Early cabernet vintages saw 225 litre French oak barriques from Allier.
12. My chardonnay and pinot used oak from Limousin.
13. I have been a finalist in the Qantas/The Wine Magazine Winemaker of the Year awards
14. I was the first to plant grapes in my region for more than 80 years
15. I established my own vineyard over 35 years ago
16. My wineries district, like so many other districts was wiped out by phylloxera and the economic decline of the early 1890’s
17. My winery marked the renaissance of my districts once famous red wine area
18. The first vintage of my wines was from 1972 with the initial commercial release the following year.
19. Former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser was particularly fond of my Cabernet
20. HRH has drunk my 1975 and 1976 Cabernets
21. I was winemaking consultant at a small producer concentrating on the site-specific expression of the Burgundian varieties of chardonnay and pinot noir, it has average yields of 1.8 tonnes per acre and in a very short time has gained iconic status in Australia for producing terroir driven pinot noir and chardonnay. The owner and winemaker has said I was his most profound influence.
