2002 Magpie Estate "The Election" shiraz
OK, I'll start this by saying that we are all different, and vive la difference.
But for me, this is as close to undrinkable that a wonderful wine gets. If that sounds like a paradox, it is meant to.
The room was filled with the smell of plums, anise, vanilla and graphite as I opened the bottle. A dense black concotion was poured into the decanter, its viscosity resembling motor oil. Massive on the palate, this utterly confronting wine is jammed packed with sweet high quality shiraz grapes, amazing depth, and buffered by prominent but ripe tannins. Large whack of vannillan oak in there for good measure.
Sorry, but for me.... just too much of everything. I couldn't finish the glass.
Drink: 2020-2030, a small glass at a time.........................87pts
