Any duty free gurus out there?

I have to go to Bahrain for work next weekend and will be stopping in Dubai and Singapore along the way. Can anyone who knows those airports better than I do tell me whether any of them are likely to offer good value on duty free wines?

I just love the way they store so many of those wines under bright lights for God knows how long!

I've been to and through Singapore airport and had a look.
I found no wine bargains, but yes, Jamie is the experienced one in this.

Hi there,
Been through Singapore many a time and spent too much time looking at wine there and never bought a drop. I did miss a good bargain on a 2000 Mouton Rothschild but that is the only time I have seen anything worth buying.
Now Helsinki is a different matter for some reason and Beijing is great for well priced aged Scotch and Cognac! Beijing also has really cheap Chinese Brandy 17 Yuan a bottle but taste is in line with the price!!!

Oh well Craig take comfort in the fact that Mouton is the worst of the 00 First Growths, still good wine - but the oak handling isnt so classy. Retail over here its $2k which is just laughable.
Agree with TORB re lights. I did buy a Eileen Hardy Shiraz Sydney airport a year ago, but it had only just been released and EH has a great 'easy fade' label, so its really simple to determine whether its been looked after by the colour of the label background.

The bargain buys are champagne- Dom for as low as 130AUD in Bahrain. Dubai & Singapore.
Table wines are less of a bargain; if at all.

I love it even more when I find a 'specialist' wine store that does the same thing.

I could've bought the 00 Mouton for about $400 AUD, but we did the tour winery thing whilst in Frnace 2 years ago and could've bought the same wine for about $340 AUD in a Supermarche. Money well kept though, as I was able to buy back vintages of Pichon for much less.
