Decided to try a 2001 Kays Hillside and 2001 Grennock Creek Apricot Block side by side Friday night. Reading all the reports of the high alcohol Greenock Creek’s this year, I was a little concerned. Well, I no longer have those concerns, this is a great wine, and we loved it. Sure the alcohol is high, but the fruit quality is there, the tannin structure is there, it has good use of oak, it’s big, it’s dark, it’s just fantastic, loads of concentrated fruit and a steal at the price. I don’t know if it will be a keeper, but there again, it’s such a lovely drink, I’m not at all bothered. We'll probably drink them over the next 5 years or so. The Hillside was also a lovely wine, probably slightly more subtle than the Apricot, but just as drinkable. Had the balance of both the following night and they both tasted pretty much exactly the same as on the first night. Very happy to have both in the cellar.

Ric, maaate, I’m not heading down any slippery slope towards red bigotry, I’m already there :D The only difference is definition; I include Pinot in the red category  Oh, also happy to whet my appetite by starting with an aged Riesling, or similar such thing, except in your company of course, where nothing less than a Central Victorian Shiraz would be opened to commence proceedings :)
